What a fun little bunch you got there Cynthia! I am loving the colored one too.
Hope you all had a fun day! It was a beautiful day in Cache Valley. Could not have been any more perfect!
I totally took advantage of the DH today....being Mother's Day, how can he say no.....so I asked him to help me get more coop stuff done today. When I asked he had this face

. It was too funny. But we finished the little coop "La Casita" on the far end, and actually doubled its size lol he did not know that was coming. We had so much leftover wood, we were able to make it twice as big and never even went to the store, how often does that happen? It was so nice. We even found extra hinges, had enough paint and trim pieces of wood. I can't believe we found everything here we needed. The stars were lined up today. All that is left is making the roost bar inside, putting chicken wire around the legs on the bottom, and attaching it at the far end of the run so that the girls can get into it. Will get some pics up when it is light outside. Haha poor husband. He was a good boy today. We are both pooped! And sunburned. But it turned out nice, it matches the big one perfectly. I think it ended up being 3 1/2 feet by 4 feet, instead of 3 x 2. It has one next box, we are going to use it if we have a broody or to put chicks in so they can be outdoors but separate from the big girls. I thought about making a separate area in there for my polish, but they are getting along great so far with the big girls so hope it stays that way! TMI, sorry, I am excited

Better make a pretty nice dinner tomorrow for Mister Casa, he earned it

I agree with BluJems- pictures or it didn't happen.

My dh has been out of town the last few days on a big ATV trip and got home late Saturday night. So, he spent most of yesterday trying to get everything cleaned up and put away from that. Then, he leaves Wednesday for Germany for a couple weeks. I think my higher priority is on the fancy firepit we're building, so I think I'll have him work on that when he's not busy packing.

I'm (hopefully) getting my small chicken tractor back tonight. I lent it to my SIL/BIL last summer, and I've been resorting to threats that I need it back. I have FOURTEEN FREAKING CHICKENS in my front room, and I need to get some outside. So, if we can get the tractor back, I can put seven of them outside in that. The younger batch of 7 are too young to go outside still, I think. (note that I didn't actually sell any this weekend, like I intended. I decided to wait til I could tell genders. Plus, I really like them all still- they're so cute)

Oooh! Fancy firepit? Sounds fun. 14 chickens in the front room? Not so fun. Hope your family gives it back soon. Mine are out in the garage, starting to ripen a little. Shavings stay nice about a half a minute.....messy litte buggers. Good thing they are so cute to make up for it!

I'm feeling very bummed out. I went to the elementary school to check on the splayed leg chick. The splint had broken free at some point over the weekend, and his leg was worse than ever. At this point, I don't think he has any hope of being successfully treated. It makes me wonder if I somehow splinted him wrong- both of the chicks I've attempted to "fix" didn't recover. And Cynthia was able to get hers done in a day.

I found three of the robin's eggs in my garden this morning. It looked to me that something pecked a small hole in them, so I lean towards it being a bird. Probably a raven or a magpie is my guess. I also found 4 or 5 walnut tree starts in the garden. I'm halfway tempted to transplant them into pots and grow them. They're certainly growing up quicker than my little oak tree that I am trying to start from an acorn.

I also wanted to share a picture of my two BLRW cockerels that I haven't rehomed yet. They're starting to become very beautiful boys, I think. One has more of an orange head, and the other has a bit of the darker blue on top.

Wow Shinx, those are pretty! Have they started to crow..lol..just wondering if the one on the left is a cockerel for sure. Very pretty. Are these from Rebecca..the same gal I got chicken eggs from? Have you placed them on ksl? A warning here, had a man that sounded Vietnamese call me, saw my chicks,,,and wondered if I had any roosters. I say no..he asks if I have any older birds I want to sell. I say no. I am pretty sure he has been to my house before when I sold some cockerels..he was disappointed that they weren't bigger. :( Those two are too pretty to go into a pot!

Nope, no crowing yet. I should've taken a picture of my hen. These guys are both definitely boys and you can tell when they're compared to the pullet. I can see saddle feathers starting to come in too; it's been interesting. ILoveMyDuckies has expressed interest in one of them. This is going to sound awful, but I would be ok with them being eaten, as long as they were dispatched humanely. These guys are from Rebecca.

Sphinx, those cockerels are beautiful! I love that one on the right

I already have boys, otherwise I would take that one off your hands. Just gorgeous coloring!

Birdguy, those baby goats are so cute. I really love the build and coloration of the newest little male. Striking!

Well, I hate to say it, but I have some bad news. That lousy raccoon showed up again. Got my BSL hen

Stupid thing didn't even bother with the new trap. AND it got her before my boyfriend could even get home for the night to shut the coop. So it just waltzed in there and had itself a nice meal. I am calling this thing Jack the Ripper, because so far it's killed all of my girls except one. The only girl I have left is my broody Marans, who, luckily, I grabbed on saturday and tossed into the spare run with her chicks. So it looks like mama and the babies are safe, phew. I so bad wish I had the time to camp out there overnight with a .22 and wait for that thing to show up. This is just ridiculous.

Got a good look at the three chicks the hen has. I'm almost certain one is a girl. The other two could still go either way, but I'm thinking I could have at least two girls in that little group. Unfortunately, I neglected to consider the fact that my rooster was standing right there when I grabbed one of the babies, so WHAM! He spurred me on the hand. I really can't get mad at him, though. He was only protecting his babies, and the swelling's starting to go down.

Finally got a hold of an air compressor that works, hallelujah! I've been outside working on the run this morning, and it's coming along just swimmingly. If I could just pat myself on the back for a moment, I did a good job at gathering scraps. I got some pictures, but I'm too tired/lazy to get them downloaded and posted here right at the moment. Sigh...............it's nice to have progress.

And I'm concerned about my little Icelandic, Sven. He was flipped over on his back twice today and couldn't regain his feet. We had to pick him up and help him. I need to clean his bum again, too. He seems happy, just kind of weak. I think I may try trimming the fuzz around his vent to see if that helps with the poo problem - VERY carefully. These Icelandics are so dainty. Their build is so much more different from the other chicks I've had.

Hope everyone had a fantastic Mother's Day! I know I sure appreciate my mom and all the skills she teaches me. I'd be so sunk without her. She's superwoman.
