Daloorashens----I had an EE the same columbian color pattern, just loved him!! His sister is somewhat columbian looking too, but she ended up much more speckled through her torso, not as white. Got both from Cynthia. I was able to sell the boy for cold hard cash, had several people call on him after seeing the pics on KSL so maybe worth a shot. I really like those, but hardly ever see them for sale.

Thanks for the tip!! I like having them, I don't mind holding onto them until they start crowing, but then again, I worry that if I wait too long it'll get late in the year and people won't be buying as many... what do you think??

Well it is official now...The Ameraucana in my profile pic is a Rooster. He started crowing this morning. It is kind of exciting cause now we get to see if he throws colorful kids. But still a hen would have been Nice too.

Naughty chicken, turning out to be a boy i will be sure to save a girl from these Wheaten chicks for you so you have a nice girl to breed him to They are turning out really pretty so far, but they are jumping on each other, I hope they start to behave! I think I have at least two girls, possibly three in there. Will wait to be sure though So far still not sure on the colors

Yep, it was kind of funny. I let the girls out, checked to make sure they had food and water. Then walking to the house I heard the old english crow, then the phoenix, then heard another crow. It didn't sound like it could have come from the little maran. so I waited and he did it again, over and over. He is really proud of himself.

then I came in and went to filter the milk, dropped a half gallon of milk on the floor when my hand lost all strength...Bummer, the monster came in and told me I should have asked for help.

That lavender is an ameraucana too, isn't it? Sorry my memory is not so good anymore, have a hard time remembering words half the time.

Awww, man, sorry about the crowing rooster!

For my coop: the window, the door, the knob, and the hinges all came from Habitat For Humanity's ReStore in Salt Lake. The whole caboodle cost $8. Can you believe it?! Like any thrift store, it's kind of hit and miss on stuff, but if you want a door, window, or door knob, odds are pretty good you'll find something awesome. There was this GORGEOUS antique, solid wood door with a crystal doorknob that I was dying to buy, but I didn't have anywhere to put it, and it was too big to go on my chicken coop.

BirdMan, I actually asked here if goats eat thistles. I was told they didn't. If they did, I would buy a pair of goats in a heartbeat. Seriously. If I could find any animal that ate thistles, I'd get one or two and put them in my pasture.

Cynthia, sorry your husband is sick. Hope he gets over the flu soon.

What is the address for that place. How big is the coop you are building? BTW has anyone put built in feeders on their coop? Do they work? There is a lady in Draper named Carol that builds coops and she puts built in feeders in hers, She makes a really nice coop. Not too expensive. She advertises on KSL. I was going to have her make me a bigger coop but hubby wants to do it. I do worry because when he does things sometimes he gets chest pain but dr said ok to do so am going to let him try

I have a question on the lockdown process. My first incubator is due to hatch on Sunday That is 21 days. My second is due to hatch on Tuesday. So for lockdown should I go Friday for the first and Sunday for the second? Also does lockdown men you should not open the bator at all. How long should the chicks stay in the bator once they hatch?I have seen people put cupcake papers under the eggs as they are hatching to keep the bator cleaner, Is that a good idea? Notice that I am being optimistic that I will have anything hatch at all. For all you experienced people Please give me the benefit of your experience.

Oh sundance..I'm so with you there..they need to think of some way. Can you imagine how many people would be sooo not ok with that? lol..a rooster that doesn't crow. I would take any rooster that didn't crow. It would be fun to have one, they are just beautiful, and I could have my own fertile eggs.

I was at the vet's the other day for my dog and asked him if they can de-crow a rooster like they de-bark dogs. Believe it or not he said yes. I'm sure it would probably be pretty expensive but kind of an interesting idea.
There is a vet in Centerville that I went to when I had a sick parakeet and parrot that specializes in exotic animals and birds. I wonder if he would de-crow a rooster. My friend used to work for him and she watched him do surgery on a pet mouse once so I suspect that working on a rooster would be a piece of cake for him. Hmmmm.........

Goodness, what a night. My poor hubby. Getting sick when you are older isn't as easy when you were younger. Really.

Lisa, my little Wheatons are doing great with each other and all the other chicks they are with. I now have them in the grow up pen. Red saw them. They are in with a 13 week old Silkie. A red sexlink that is about a two weeks older than they are, a showgirl and another silkie that are about 3 weeks older than they are, and, one of my Exchequers. Everyone is doing fine in there. They kept to themselves for a while, now they will go and eat treats with the others. Kind of funny to see that big Silkie in there with those babies, but she's getting used to new ones coming in. I will have more Silkies in with them in about a week. These are birds that I watch, to see who I want to keep, I do believe I have my favorite Wheaton picked out.

I will keep my older Silkie if she is a she, which is looking promising, finally. They have to be a lot older before you can even guess at their age. So, I will have some older birds for sell in a while, as I pick the ones I will keep.
