Psst, Red, it's probably because you were letting them all see you're a crazy knife lady!! Just teasing! No worries on the knives. I think knives are beautiful, and when I have more money and time, I shall collect them. I love knives too. I actually carry a leatherman micro on my keychain. The knife is laughable, but it's been surprisingly handy. I don't carry my pocketknife often because I'm afraid I'll forget and go into a restricted area.
Brad, your gun sounds really nice. My dh has a mouser. He's been talking about getting a .22, and he also thinks we need a handgun, but we haven't had the time to get them.
Lisa, congrats on the new egg layer! That's fantastic news.
Kimmy, I'm new to DE. I just bought some a week or so ago (got a 50 lb bag for $40 off someone in Murray on KSL). I used a sand toy sifter to sprinkle it around my coops and runs. I have to admit I do see a rather dramatic drop in flies since then. I've been eyeing my calves and trying to figure out how to sprinkle DE on them.
I second Cynthia, definitely put carpet down in the nest boxes. I got a berber remnant, and then cut to fit the nest box and placed it in there. I didn't permanently attach so that I could take it out and hose it off if the need arose. Then, I put shavings over the top. Since I did that, I haven't had a cracked egg.
Kidasoto, sure sounds like you have a new layer. Congrats!
BluJems, good luck with your fair entries.
Sundance, CONGRATULATIONS again on doing so well at the county fair!! I'm not surprised. Your chickens were so gorgeous. Thanks for the update on my pullet, and thanks so, so, so much for helping her for me.
Chiko, so scary that you almost lost a hen today. Glad you were able to help in time.
Red, I still think they'd be nuts not to hire you. Keeping my fingers crossed. Congrats on the truck. Do you love it?
