Lisa, congrats on the grand daughter. They are so precious the first days. I dont know if this is true but a very wise women (my mom) told me the reason newborns cant talk is because they would be able to tell you about heaven. I dont know if its true but if you look into their eyes i really think they are hiding something, why else would they smile and laugh when know one is looking at them.

Lisa, you were wondering about the Nankins. I have some pictures of them at hatching, and, older..I think, looking..but to let you all know..all 7 are still doing well, and I am now getting excited to see the little Nankin. If it's a girl, I just may keep her. I only have the one little Faverolle bantam. What a sweetheart. I keep saying that don't I. Well she is something! Here's the pictures..


Here is a single picture..trying to find one with the bunch of them
They always have little black dots on the top of their heads, that
go away after a while. You can tell by the shape of the wing, it
is a little bantam of some sort. Very rare, still endangered,
but getting better.

You can see the spots on some better than others. Some do
have more than others. Not sure what those other two babies
are..sure are cuteies though. One looks like a lemon blue
cochin. One looks like an EE. I was just getting some LF
hatching, and putting them in with the Nankins.


Almost grown up. There is one in the background. This one
was always sweet to come up to the roost to see me, even
with the camera.

Lisa, your new grandbaby is darling! What a special gift for you guys.

Cynthia, that Nankin looks so cute. It really makes me want a Japanese bantam, especially after hearing good things about them from Lisa. I came so close this summer to picking up a chick at Cal Ranch that I was 90% sure was a Japanese bantam................dang you self control!!

It's dad, like you said was a Rhode Island Red, with tons of random hens running around. My guess is his mother was a Wyandotte.

Hector, I think some roosters are shyer than others. Both my Ameraucana boys didn't start crowing until they were at least 7 months old.
