Utah!

I guess my chickens are just dumb. I have seen an occasional mouse in the yard and they just ignor it. I also have little quail that they share the coop with. The only problem I had was with the roosters trying to breed the quail and chuckers

I'd like to see my boys try and breed the turkeys. They get their butts kicked just for standing in the way and looking at the gobblers wrong! And it made me laugh that the one hen laid an egg on your foot. "Oh, it's nice and warm here. Here - present for you!"

The white turkeys are starting to get fat. They now waddle when they run

Hehehe, I love watching them run around. The wild one is still pretty lean, but it's the breed. My one turkey that keeps hopping the fence likes to go into the neighbor's driveway and crop the grass near their fence. Because, y'know, the neighbor's dead grass just tastes SO much better than our non-forbidden grass.

My mom and I were headed out to visit my grandparents today and saw that the turkey was out again. We stopped and I got out to shoo her back into the yard. she saw me and knew she was in trouble, squealed outta there at top-speed waddle, then realized she'd gone the wrong way and needed to go around a trailer parked in their driveway. I really didn't have to do much, I just took a few steps and told her to get in the yard. She let out her little "TOK TOK TOK!" alarm call and ran all the way to the preserve gate. I thought it was funny.

Dalooras, so exciting! I would have a hard time sleeping, too

Was gone all day, just got back. Still no babies Blujems? Let us know what happened/happens...hope you get an ameraucana too, but those FBCM eggs are gorgeous so some of those chicks would be a welcome thing as well!

Candled mine, every single one that I can see into is moving, yay! Still going. There are 18, and 9 I cannot see inside at all, so if I have quitters I cannot tell yet. So far so good, I am just sure I will lose some from the roasting. One more week~!

I am hoping where your FBCM eggs are more pullet sized eggs (for the Marans, they are still bigger than some of my hens though!) they will have a better chance than those whoppers I tried to hatch last Spring. They just were full of goop at hatch. I cannot stand the wait either  Will check back in the morning, I hope there is good news from both Daloorashens and Blujems!

Hope you all had a great NY! Loved reading about what you were all up to today. We went sledding, and yes this old grandma got on the disc sled and flew down the hill. My back is not so great now, I wish I were still young and spry like way back when. Well we made good memories today despite the back issues, my son thinks I am cool, at least for today. That made it all worth it. If my DH gets on here with his videos, he is gonna be in BIG trouble. They were pretty ridiculous!

My eggs are in lock down. My Nankin is still wriggling around in there as of last night. Hope it hatches a day early. It will be strong enough to handle the bumping and juggling around from the bigger ones, and these other eggs are big!

Looking forward to seeing everyone's baby chicks that are hatching! My little Polish are doing great. The one with the wry neck well it is all gone. Happy day. That concoction really worked. My little blue eggs go into lockdown tomorrow. Then I'm done with hatching for a while. It sure has been fun having little chicks again.

Daloorashens I'll go and give you a vote.

Blujems cute baby goat.

Happy New Year everyone.

ok well we have 2 FBCM chicks in the brooder....2 more in the incubator that are iffy, they got stuck overnight. They are weak but still alive so cross your fingers they make it.
all of the ameraucana eggs quit.
going to have to save some more eggs and try again.

Hope yours have better luck Lisa.

I will get pics up soon.

Soooo cute! I'm sorry that ALL of your ameraucana eggs quit. That's terrible.

Hattie, I am so excited that your wry necked baby is all better! I bet you're thrilled.

Lisa, I am so not surprised you went sledding. I think I need to get new boots. I got some a couple winters ago that I thought were practical, but my feet get so cold that I'm suspecting they were fashionable and not warm. There's some places up by Park City where you show up in your winter clothes. They provide the tubes and a LIFT to get to the top. That sounds so much better than dragging my kids up the hill.

Red, your turkey stories are so funny!

Babies! Mine are due on Friday. Then the RIR's on Tues. I hope I get a couple of good pullets from the RIR's. I have had one in a while, and this guys girls and guy, looked really nice. The colors were great.

Had my first split egg yesterday. From freezing. Anyone ever open a frozen egg? Too weird. I usually have all of the eggs gathered pretty quick after they lay. She must have laid that egg either very late in the afternoon, or, first thing in the morning. It was only 12 degrees out there yesterday.. today it is........................................ - 2 degrees! It was 1 when I went to bed at midnight. Good grief! It's been cold here for us, but we haven't had it that cold in years!

Cute babies Blujems! Glad you got some at least. Hoping for that last little one! I have some i want to set from Jezibel, before they get stale, I think I will slip them in the bator today, but will have to take them out for lockdown, so I better get the other bator from you before Sunday. Will call ya :)
Any news on your other goat yet?

Cynthia, yes it has been rdidiculously COLD! I can do without it for sure. Sphinx, good time of year to go boot shopping, everything will be on clearance...I am trying to stay out of the stores but it is so hard. I love to shop!

Casa....just let me know, I could always send it with mike to drop off after work.
I hope you get some of the Ameraucana to hatch. They all stopped right before or right after lock down from what I could tell.
I have started saving the eggs when I get them, hopefully I will have better luck next time.

cynthia what do you have due on friday?

Still waiting on my other goat, she is not in a hurry at all. In the mean time this baby is getting spoiled. This is her cuddled up with phoenix and the monster. Wrapped up in her own blanket.
