Utah!

Happy new year everybody! I was way behind on this thread, end of year stuff is insane at my work with the fiscal cliff shtuff. Cute chicks and baby goats and..,wow it's not even spring yet! Lol.

Lisa, I saw that you are looking at ordering mottled houdan? Me too! I gave my kids an assignment to research a breed and let me know why they wanted it. He was the only one that did and the houdan is what he chose. On researching, I see that they are an endangered breed. Do you know of any sources outside of hatcheries? Our plan is to buy hatchery stock and try to breed up to the sop, but it sure would be nice to find something that is already on its way there. I think we would start by breeding for size and egg laying, then work on the paint (color). Anyhow, I was excited to see someone on here interested in the breed :D

ok a few more pics of the princess...Had to make a sweater out of an old sweatshirt to help her keep warm.

She has a milk mustache

And the 2 babies....

And the on in the incubator is up and moving around....just waiting for her to dry a bit more

Yay blujems! So glad the last one is looking good!

You are TORTURING me with that baby goat. I would snap that one up in a minute if it were warmer weather, we are just going nuts over how cute she is, she is absolutely perfect. How cute you play dress up too haha!

Lilwanis, I am very interested in the Houdans, I have not run across any private breeders..I went with McMurray over Meyer as they sold them sexed rather than straight run. I really like the way they look, and have heard they are quite full of personality. I have 10 ordered, no idea what kind of quality i will be getting. I ordered several to cover any losses in shipment, roosters, etc. so that I can be sure to get a couple girls from the batch. I can get you pics to see if you want to order some from them, or if you are interested in any of my extras. I hope they are decent quality, I thought I would see if I like them well enough to possibly get a rooster down the road..I keep toying with the idea of choosing one breed to work with and having the courage to keep a rooster, I am allowed to have them but keep worrying about my neighbors.

Same here on that baby goat! My DH and I were just chuckling over the pictures..just darling.

I have some barnyard mixes, and one..pure Nankin due on Fri. blu. And guess what I just noticed?? I put more water in for humidity, decided to shine the light on the eggs..just because..and the Nankin has pipped! Come on little baby. I wanted it early, looks like it may happen. Now it can grow strong before I put another one of the big barnyard mixes in..they will be a sex link..dad was a gorgeous RIR, and the hens were mostly red sex links...unless, I get a black, then we will know if the big black beautiful Australorp roo he has is doing things right now..he's still young, so my friend wasn't sure. If I see black, I will know.

And of course, there is a shucks to throw in here..when it comes to getting myself an olive egger! That baby I kept from my last hatch came from the more green of all the eggs, not as dark as I've seen, but very pretty. Well, that comb on that chick is getting pretty big..looks to have three rows, the feathering isn't screaming roo yet, but they are still young. At least my 5th generation blue girl .. is a girl. Easy tellin there. :)

I got sick today, and it happened real quick. Tummy stuff. Went to PT, went to the grocery store after, and said to my hubby, let's go. Came home, ate a little something..and that was it. I've been in and out of bed since 1:30. Feeling a little better, but I'm chilled, and my muscles hurt. No fun. I sure hope Scott doesn't get it.
Here's a pity picture...

Look at how green I look. Pretty bad ey? Hope you all stay well! Lots of crud going around. Stay out of those stores Lisa..there's bugs floating around everywhere! That should keep you away from shopping for a while.

Now I remember you saying that before....I hope you feel better soon. We have just gotten over the cough and crud. Hopefully that will be it for awhile.....Although school starts again tomorrow, who knows what the monster will bring home.
Can't wait to see the babies.

Love the goat and chick pictures, blujems!

Lisa, I think you should get a rooster.

Cynthia, I'm wondering if it's food poisoning, since it hit so quickly. Congrats on your pip! Hope you feel better soon.

Don't worry this little doe isn't up for sale. But we have nine more to kid so you have time to get your pen ready.
