Utah!

All seven of my legbar eggs hatched!!!! The crack baby and the old fogey fridge egg hatched in the middle of the night last night. The last egg to hatch was my last minute addition (ha ha, typed "addiction" there at first. Freudian slip anyone?). I started these eggs baking on a Friday evening. Saturday morning, I found a freshly laid legbar egg in the henhouse, so I stuck it in the incubator. So, that last egg was a good 12 hours behind everyone else. She/He still hatched at about 20 days, 14 hours though, so still on the early side.

So, it looks like all of these guys are marans/legbar mixes. 2 or 3 of them have faint spots on their heads. My favorite has a brownish spot on its' head and brownish cheeks.

I had a surprise this morning. I had a chick hatch a day early. My home grown eggs went into lockdown on Thursday as did my auracana eggs. One of my homegrown hatched. It was in a pink egg and the father was an olive egger rooster with pretty furry legs. This is a big chick and has slight down going down its legs, I was really surprised when I went by the incubator and heard the chick screaming its head off. Its been hollering all day and I don;t see any pips but I didn't open the bator to look closer. I hope it stimulates the others, Tomorrow I'll take it out and put it in the aquatium in the living room.
Sphynx I feel bad your ill. That is so hard
Lisa how is your chicken. I have some gold lace polish chicks all pullets in my chick order Your welcome to one if you want it. I ordered a few extra
I have someone from Logan coming to look at kittens tonight

How cool is that! All of them~! Yay for this hatch Sphinx, I am smiling for you! I am thinking they will lay nice olive eggs too, yes? Woo hoo :)

I sold two of my showgirls today. I think it was a boy/girl pair to a guy who would love if one were a boy. I sure hope two are not boys, I told him I worry. But he can have roosters so he says no problem. They really are ready to go in the garage, getting big. So one will be easier to manage than three. Sure hope the one I kept turns out to be a girl, if not, i will try again lol

I do not know if I should put more eggs in after these hatch this week. :ya Trying to control myself but I am having so much fun raising babies right now. And it seems like people are really starting to buy them, so the egg cost is (mostly) covered when they sell, and they are finding homes...so I figure might as well have some fun :) But the chicken dust in the house is the deterrent..I had an air purifier I would set by the brooder but it quit on me. The dust wreaks havoc with my asthmatic tendencies. I tried putting paper towels on the brooder wire lid, that helps a little, but I feel like they are not getting the fresh air that way. Anybody else have ideas for the dust?

SUndance, way to go on the early chick! Yay! I hope your Logan person buys your cat. They are so cool!

I will let you know on the Golden Laced Polish, thanks for letting me know! I may do that, my Elvis is not one I think I am going to keep after spring, maybe I will try another. She just won't lay at all.

So I have some news that I really feel like sharing...somewhere. My DH was offered a job yesterday. The starting pay is more than our current combined salaries. I was so excited by the possibilities and opportunities that this could bring for us that I couldn't sleep. I could quit my job and it would actually help from where out current situation is. We live comfortably right now, but much more would be a stretch for us. This gives us the chance to be able to purchase a larger home and property for my dream mini farm...really I am so excited that it makes me apprehensive. Nothing is official yet, so I have to bite my tongue around non Internet friends for the time being.

I have been combing the Internet for an affordable plot of land to purchase now with the intention of building on it slowly over time. Today, for the first time, I looked at land with buildings and houses already on it. I have been thinking about how nice it will be to spend an entire day with my baby, which makes me tear up a bit. I am enough of a realist that I wouldn't jump on any decisions for a while. I am also a stock broker (officially a licensed financial representative), so the math and future plans are constantly running through my head. Any way, thank you for reading a long. I just had to share my excitement with someone

Oh that issooo exciting hope it works out

Lilwanis, oooooh that new job opportunity sounds awesome! I hope that it works out for you. As you probably know, I'm a realtor, so I can help you look for property to daydream over. Keep us posted.

Sundancen, congrats on your early baby! How fun!

My closing today went surprisingly well, given that I couldn't talk. I gave in and went to the doctor who told me I have an ear infection (I kinda figured that). I know this is further proof that I'm not a grownup. I sure do have a lot of sympathy for babies with their ear infections though- this REALLY hurts.

So, any of you guys want a couple babies? I think I eventually want to keep one pullet from this hatch, but I don't want 7 of any one kind of bird.

Babies hatching everywhere! Congrats on the new babies. Olive eggers too! I candled mine last night, 24 hrs. out..and yes! A lot of large bullseyes. And, a lot of funky air sacs, but not as bad as my barred rock ones. There was one in the Olive eggs that has one all the way up one side, that is fertile. I hope I don't have to help these babies out, but my goodness, I am going to be so nervous if I don't have any pips by the night before they are due to hatch..
I have to get me a blue baby girl. That will lay me a very green olive egg. :D If someone had said that back in the day my grandmother had chickens, they would have thought that someone had bought a dyed Easter chick from the 5 and dime store window. But a future green egg? They would have laughed.

Dalooras, I hope you have this come true. I have only day dreamed it.

My son is home, and he looks so much better than he did when he when into the hospital. Of course! Still on the meds...for a couple of things. Hope it keeps working. :)

I have 5 chicks and 12 more pips, I am so excited. I have one home grown, 3 Araucanas yes the true araucanas and one black copper maran. The pips I have are the black copper marans and araucanas, I didn't mention I was hatching BCM because I have had such bad luck with them. My seramas went into lock down yesterday, no pips yet

Sphinx, I did catch that, and believe me if things go the way I am hoping they will, I know exactly who to contact that won't laugh or give me a weird look when I say I want a place that I can keep lots of chickens, lol. The downside to my daydreaming is that our current home is a hard sale. It might be better since they built the school in the front yard, but last time we listed it, it was on the market for a year with only two calls and showings

Cynthia, I am so glad to hear that your son is on the mend! It is so scary to have a kid in the hospital,,. Good luck with the OE hatch! I keep saying is, but I cannot wait to start hatching. We are currently remodeling the house and it is a pure disaster area! No space for the family let alone more chickens, lol. This is my first time doing a multi quote so hopefully it worked ok
