Acemario, I do dry hatch (no water added) the first 17 days USUALLY... I have had good luck going that route. But because the temps outside are below freezing here in CV and the air is even drier than normal, I add one damp sponge, a 2x2 piece to sit in the bator, at least until it starts staying above 32 outside. I wet the sponge each morning, it is usually almost dry or dried out. That is all I add til lockdown, then I put warm water in all the channels, 2 or 3 sponges, I let it get as high as it wants to go, I do not open it to add more water those last three days, but I do really quick set new sponges in each morning. I had all my eggs hatch last time

I stop turning at 16 days also, seems to be working better for me to give them the extra day or two to get in the right position. Just my quirky tricks, we all have different ones that work in the different bators

Polish are my weakness, I keep trying to stick with LF layers, but I have to keep a few of the ornamental silly looking ones to make it interesting

I really want to hatch Tolbunt someday, I was going to do it this Spring but I am on the fence, I have so many others I am gettting I might wait til a few more of my older girls go next year. Cynthia has a friend hatching some so I want to see how hers do first, I might snag one from her instead of hatching a whole bator full, I do not think I could have the self control to not keep the whole lot lol!

Cynthia, that is so awesome Red's eggs are doing so good! I really really really hope I can get a girlie baby from her Flekka someday

Yer preachin' to the choir, Reverend. Two of the Icelandics are laying, and I'm about 97% sure that Flekka is one of them. It's soooo hard to wait to start collecting eggs. Sigh.

I went to IFA and guess what I bought> NOT A naked neck for Cynthia. The had every color but white, They even had turkins with the cute chipmonk stripes. Darn. I met this lady that was looking at Jocks broken leg and guess who it was Lilowanis (not sure of the Spelling) It is so nice to meet people, Just as I was leaving I made a big mistake. I looked down. There they were. DUnccles. on the very bottom row. I pretended I knew what I was doing and looked at the wings. I picked out the two that looked like they had 2 rows of feathers and voila I am now the proud momma of a porcelin and a mystery color pullet (I hope) Dunccles Darn that Cynthia. She set a trap for me I just know she did, Well Cynthia they get 3 shipments of chicks next week so maybe they will have a white turkin for you. If I get a chance I will call the other IFA store and see if they have a white turkin.

It was nice to meet you! That's the first time I have met someone irl from this sight. Funny story, I told my DH that I needed to get food for the girls and asked him if he wanted to come. He didn't, until I told them they would have chicks there. He didn't want me to get any so I had a babysitter. I was tempted to get leghorns though. I have had a few friends who want to get chicks from me. They all want good egg layers (of course), so I was thinking I could do my own SBEL's. I have also thought about doing trader joes fertile eggs for that same purpose. I am about to start a hatch with my own eggs to try to get a feel for the incubator before I try it with shipped eggs.

I have officially sold my first dozen eggs as of today. Before now, I've either just been eating them or giving them away to people who could use them. the neighbor across the street approached me earlier and asked if I'd be interested in selling him some eggs. This is the same guy whose dog went after my turkey several months ago and scared him half to death. I gave him eggs afterward so that he knew there were no hard feelings. He said they were good

This time I just had a dog with a broken leg sitting on my purse. I almost hate taking him shopping because he gets so much attention and I like to get my shopping done but Jacque love it so much I don't have the heart to leave him home. He doesn't leave me much choice. I pick up the keys and he's by the door. if its opened he runs out and is sitting by the car ready to go. In the store he loves to sit on my purse and look cute for the pets and treats, He is becoming a specialist. Next time I take a chicken into the store I'll let everyone know

i went to ifa in riverton just to see if they had chicks, not that i would buy any but its fun to window shop. they did not have any. i think they get theirs next week? saw the rabbits. i so want more rabbits but that would mean another hutch and i do not have the space for one. but i did find seeds, yeah i was like a kid in a candy store with them.

Now that's funny. Of course you did. Don't we all cave in at some point when those chicks are at the stores? I think if I don't get a girl barred rock with these three, I will get one from a store. They usually have those.
How did the necks look on the NN's. Were they real naked, or did they have good fluff? And, what colors? And why am I asking this? lol..I would take one that has a lot of fluff in another color, I just don't care for them all naked..necked. I think your white one looks a lot like my white did. More fluff than not.
My Non NN laid again today. She is already laying a larger egg than my other girl. My other sex link will not give very big eggs. Very unusual. But I can see that this non nn is going to give some nice sized eggs. Whoot! Prettier color today too.

some had nice neck fluff, they had black, buff and chipmonk color. I am assuming those would be dark red or partridge, nice healthy babies. I am going to orem on Tuesday to have Jacques leg checked by the Orthopedic surgeon. We should know if its got enough bone made to plate or if the leg has to be amputated. We are both ready to have the cast off. If you want me to swing by ifa I will. I wish I had know you would take any color I would have got them today. Boy the chicks were flying out the door. My chicks are selling well to. I still have a few of the cicilian Butter cups and a couple of dominiques, black sex links and mottled houdans

The chicken was with me when I went to Cal Ranch. It was too hot to leave her in the car so I picked her up and carried her around the store, People did tend to think I was nut but them I am kind of nuts so thats ok.
