Utah!

The chicken was with me when I went to Cal Ranch. It was too hot to leave her in the car so I picked her up and carried her around the store, People did tend to think I was nut but them I am kind of nuts so thats ok.

Sundance, I just tell people at work that chickens are like two-legged cats with feathers. Some get it, and some still think I'm a weirdo, but whatever. At least I'm a weirdo that gets to enjoy my chickens

Also, I'm going to make a little plug here for Sundance - If anyone is looking to get chicks that grow up to be very mellow, sweet, and inquisitive, you would like those Dominique's she has. My halfsies Dominique is so friendly, even to strangers! She's pretty laid back about meeting people and being handled.

Cynthia, I forgot to say how pretty that egg is from your Non-NN! It's such a lovely dark pink. Lucky you!

And, speaking of sex-links.............ahem........ These incubators are as bad as the chicks at the store! I was outside cleaning the coop and run today, and I noticed that my mom's BR cockerel has been quite busy with the ladies. He usually falls off before he can get much done, but he's determined. And then I saw him breed my RIR. And then, I found myself thinking, "Ah ha, black sex-links?? Hmmm........"

Oh dear

Corvidae, I'm giggling that you got sucked in to the chicks. I'm scared to go to the feed store.

Sundance/Lilwanis, that's so fun that you guys met.

It was fun meeting, I guess I stand out kind of, My dog in my purse waiving his cast around for sympathy and me hanging out at the NN chicks having them bring them all out to make sure they weren't white and checking the bow ties for Cynthia so of course a very nice lady is going to approach me and say are you on backyard chickens? Are you Sundance? I recognize the dog and knew you were going to get a NN for cynthia. It could only happen at IFA

some had nice neck fluff, they had black, buff and chipmonk color. I am assuming those would be dark red or partridge, nice healthy babies. I am going to orem on Tuesday to have Jacques leg checked by the Orthopedic surgeon. We should know if its got enough bone made to plate or if the leg has to be amputated. We are both ready to have the cast off. If you want me to swing by ifa I will. I wish I had know you would take any color I would have got them today. Boy the chicks were flying out the door. My chicks are selling well to. I still have a few of the cicilian Butter cups and a couple of dominiques, black sex links and mottled houdans
I'm sorry. I didn't know that IFA would actually have nice fluffed NN's. I wouldn't mind a buff at all. Are they pullets? If not buffs left, then chipmunk. If no chipmunk..lol..black...lol.. thank you. Oh I wish that little dog good luck. At least you will be done with all of it one way or the other, right? What a trooper. Both of you!

i went to ifa in riverton just to see if they had chicks, not that i would buy any but its fun to window shop. they did not have any. i think they get theirs next week? saw the rabbits. i so want more rabbits but that would mean another hutch and i do not have the space for one. but i did find seeds, yeah i was like a kid in a candy store with them.

I'm like you, window shop, at least that's how it was last year. I only got one chick for myself last year..a RIR. Seeds, what kind of seeds. Red and I were talking about herbs and how she was going to pot them this year. I am thinking about doing the same thing. Better than having that mint spread everywhere!

I had a scare this morning! BOTH lamps in one of my brooder pens were OUT!!! I had babies piled into a corner totally cold. I mean seriously.......I have two lamps in the "1-2 week old little baby" pen so I have a backup. It's insane that both bulbs burned out at the same time. I ended up bringing one chick into the house where I put her in one of my incubators to warm up for a few hours. Poor thing looked almost dead. Good news though.....I got her warmed up just in time and she's now in my indoor brooder with the new hatchlings acting perfectly normal. Whew!!! That was close. I would have been horrified if they all died.

Oh, and about the feed stores getting chicks.....even when I have several big brooders full of them and two in the house I'm still tempted. LOL

Guess who I'm giving up? My swedish flower hen. I just don't care for her. That may sound terrible, but she isn't friendly at all. She isn't mean at all with the others. I just don't like her. She doesn't like me, and I don't like her.

Anyone want a Swedish Flower Hen that will lay in about a month and a half if not sooner? She needs someone to love her.

I've heard that they are sweet, but every bird is different. Red? Anyone?
