Utah!

Only 14. Plus the four my mom has. Plus the one I gave to my brother. So 19.

Wait, WAIT!

I predict...................

Shawn is going to tell me I don't have enough chickens!

I was just thinking if there was something wrong with your head...... might have to do with how many chickens you had.... (I wasn't going to say if it was too few or too many.............. although I'm thinking 19 might not be enough to cause a head problem)

Showgirls are Silkies bred to Naked Neck Turkens. The first breeding does not give them all the desired traits, so serious breeders keep breeding them back to silkies to get the black/purple skin, furry coat, naked neck, vaulted skulls, etc. It takes quite a few generations to get the "perfected product". However, as they are re-bred they lose the size of the turken...the egg size--and the less broody temperament. There is a trade off.

Cynthia, So exciting you have more eggs coming :) Are they from certain colored birds or a variety?

Red, good prediction....but don't forget he will tell you that you need more turkeys also....I can't come within 30 miles of him or I just know I will find turkey eggs in my car...or my purse, or hiding amongst my chicken hatching eggs...

A variety..probably this that and another thing. Two doz. from one seller. He is doing this for his dad. His dad has raised them for years.

Fuuuuuuuuunnnn! Jealous face  I love my new NN baby. She is so sweet. And fluffy. I think she will be partridge colored, her feathers coming in look like my bantam partridge cochin I had last year. I am still waiting on showgirl eggs, and have gotten on two people's "waiting list". Hopefully soon, one lady said first week in April, not too far away.

Crap. I was typing all my responses in another window and accidentally closed it. So, I shall try to go off memory.

Sundance, I can't name my new rooster Houdini because the FBCM I got from you is named that, due to his magical appearance in your coop. I like the idea of the runner idea. The fastest runner right now is Usain Bolt. I think Bolt is a very appropriate name, don't you?

Cynthia, darling babies you have there.

Cindiloohoo, I think your marans are both girls. I'm not as confident about your BLRW, but if I were to guess, I'd guess the one on the right is a girl and the one on the left is a boy. I'd like to see their wattles and wing feathers though.

Red, I'm glad you're having your head examined. ha ha ha! Seriously, I am glad you're being proactive. Your mom's and your brother's chickens TOTALLY don't count in your numbers.

Today I set my first batch of school eggs. The school was so excited and that was thrilling to see. They asked for an update on the chicks I hatched last year (if I could have, I would have set eggs from that batch, but my naughty FBCM laid an egg while I was setting eggs, so it was too late!). I had 5 hatch last year, 4 girls, and I knew the wherabouts of all. I I set four BLRW of Corvidaes, 2 of my legbar's, and a white egg that either belongs to my polish or my brand new penciled Hamburg. Either way, it promises to be cool. I've gotta say, I've loved having my chickens separated. I know immediately if that blue egg belongs to my legbar or my ameraucana, or if that dark brown egg is a FBCM or from my Shirley, the unknown mutt. Anyway, the white egg definitely belongs to the polish or the hamburg. They're with the FBCM and the polish males, but I have to admit I've only seen the polish mating recently. My FBCM seems to father all the chicks, but I'm really, really hoping the white egg is a pure polish. It'd be sooooo cool!!!!

Phew! I just scanned through 109 posts! Lots of cute pictures! Red, I'm so glad you went to see the doctor! I hope she can figure out what's going on with you, soon.

I know, I know, I still need to post pictures of the cochin babies I hatched out last Friday. They're cuties, of course. No fuzzybutts posted on BYC aren't! ;) My bantam wheaten Ameraucanas are due to hatch tomorrow...I've got no pips and no cheeps, nothing. So I'm getting super anxious.
I've got Thursday and Saturday off this week, so hopefully I can get some updated pics posted for you guys!

Sphinx, what is all this about a newly acquired Hamburg, huh, huh?? Now I COULD have missed this, but I follow this thread pretty closely so I see three things wrong in this picture.

1. No guessing game on what ya got. 2. Nobirth/adoption announcement to your chicken friends. 3. No pictures posted of your new addition.

Tsk, tsk tsk.....:lau

please can we see her? :D That is something new around these parts!

Good luck on your school hatch!

You are in trouble too young lady. I can't wait to see those babies :) Maybe if yours hatch tomorrow we can get a 2 for 1 deal on photos :p

My Wh Am eggs that came all weepy and were not the right color--a total bust. Due yesterday, they are all duds. I have none hatching now until 4/5, Good thing, I need time to rearrange the brooder situation. I need to quit keeping so many from each hatch :/
