Ha, I came on to post a few pictures myself..and there yours are..wow, love your white Japanese, and your paint SG. I think my Japanese is more red than yours. Eeek. Guess time will tell. Your little baby that came from a blue egg looks more lavender? Sure is pretty..maybe a splash. :D Man, I can't wait for my Houdans to come. Yours is so pretty..mottled ey? Love it.
Here are my pictures of my new babies.
Group shot. The light one has a smoky coloring..all of the mix babies have feathered feet.

I may have to name her Smoky. Hope it's a girl! Came from a blue blue egg.

Two tiny tots! The photos really don't show just how small that brown one is.

Keeping this black one..came from a blue blue egg. Very feathered on the feet. :)

Cute chicks, Cynthia! Lisa, I loved the pics of your chickens, too. I agree with Cynthia-loving that white Jap and your Paint!
Cynthia, are those tiny tots Seramas?

We went to visit Sundance yesterday and pick up a couple of her birds. The boys have declared her house to be "The House of Awesome" because of all the neat stuff there. Ash came home with 3 Americaunas, which he won't stop babbling about (he thinks he has his own flock now!). We also came home with a bunch of quail--coturnix, bob white? I know next to nothing about quail, but the boys were most persuasive. Zach hit research mode the second we got home (gotta love homeschooled kids obsessiveness) and he's been walking around citing quail information at us. He was pretty ticked tha IFA didn't have a book on quail and actually asked the sales lady how they could justify selling quail when they had no information on raising them (he was polite, but offended). She took it pretty well and actually agreed with him.

Sundance had, I think, Seramas? Little little chickens with a rooster that crowed like a squeak toy. I have hens that make more manly sounds than that rooster, but it was super cute and kind of funny to listen to. Do all Seramas sound like that? If they do, one could keep them in non rooster areas with ought much trouble at all. I was thinking of getting a small bunch of those sometime. Cute as can be....

Wow. So guineas eat the ticks, huh? I will have to keep that in mind. Ticks are always one of my big concerns when I'm out in the mountains. If I end up moving to Delta or somewhere else still fairly rural when all of this nightmare stuff with my BF is over, I am going to see if I can talk him into getting some guineas. Have you had yours since they were keets, or have you always had them as adults? Are they hatchery stock? Breeder stock? I am loving those white ones and the lighter ones I can see in the picture (lavender?) I've only ever seen the darker-colored guineas.

I have heard that peafowl like to get up on peoples' cars and make a mess, but honestly, I wouldn't mind them in my yard. The noise would take some getting used to, but I'd love seeing that splash of color. They seem gentle, too. Whenever I have been to the zoo, their peafowl are always laid back, if aloof from the people. I can even get them to talk to me, hehe. I had a great grandfather that had a farm, and he kept guineas and peafowl. I guess he would go to the grocery store and get all of the old produce that they'd throw out, then feed it to his peafowl. Sounds like a job, for sure! But they are such beautiful birds.

If I can't ever get guineas or peafowl, my consolation prize to myself will be geese

My roosters are great when it comes to keeping an eye on other critters in the area, but I have always wanted some other kind of watch dog fowl. And until then, I just tease my BF that I need ducks. Or an emu, hahaha.

Hi Red ,

I love my guineas!!! I purchased a few last year when they were week old keats, and the rest ordered through Stromberg's as new babies. They have some wild colors available at certain times of the year. I want more, in some new varying colors but can't really justify more of them around here. As it is now, with spring here, they have paired off, and most wonder away during the day with the males coming back in at night. The hens are now out on nests, which you can NEVER find. They are scattered through the neighbors properties and I'm just glad the neighbors like them too. One neighbor, who isn't very bright thinks they are mutant turkeys...lol.

My peafowl pretty much just roam around. They like getting on people horse trailers but have stayed off the lower vehicles. They aren't quite a year old and have just started to call... which is really cool!!!

They aren't really friendly but not afraid of people either.... kinda in their own world. They roost around and at night come in with the other fowl, to the coops, which is good!!! They are absolutely beautiful and my neighbor will disown me if I ever get rid of them. LOL They surprise her in her coop occasionally, eating her chicken scratch, and she just lets them...ugh!! Husband knows someone who has white peafowl and I hope he'll surprise me with a few some day soon.

I've had friends that have had Emus, Rheas and Ostriches!!! Oh man!!! Don't even go there...lol!!! Duck like to poop on concrete so you have to keep them penned!! I love how cute ducks are but hate cleaning concrete and walkways!!

Okay, back to building chicken runs.... have been so busy with that and getting my hives ready for bees this Saturday, I'm beat (and I think it's worn out my brain...lol.... can't remember who's going to Chickenstock and what they're are bringing (selling)> UGH!!))

Rule #1: When you really really want a rooster you will not get one no matter what. Rule #2: If you are hoping for girls only in your hatch, you will get 80 percent boys every time. Or 90.

Thanks everyone for helping with my Wyondottes! Little buggers are so tricky.

Casa- THIS is exactly my frustration! Thank you for writing this, made me feel better

Although, there should also be something about how much $$$ you paid for the eggs determining the horrid hatch rate.
My husband started adding up how much I spent on eggs + shipping this year and how many pullets I got that I wanted.........those are some expensive birds!!! I loved hatching but I think for a long time I'm going to just get babies from all of you. I have had it for a long time.

Corvidae- We "Home's cool" as well, you and I have a lot in common!

Saw this today, went well with my day so I thought I would share
