Utah!

You are all wonderful to help so quickly! I will start reading all I can right away, but at least with the help from all of you I can give it some fresh food until I find some duck food.
He/she is so cute but will not be able to stay here sadly. The "cheeps' sound more like a nose whistle ;)

Okay, this hen-not-laying thing is getting annoying. My roommates came back from Duchesne today with a whopping TWO eggs from the TEN BLRW hens up there. That's 2 eggs in five freaking days. I'm starting to think there was some kind of lunar misalignment this past week. These are naughty chickens and i shan't bring them treats until they start showing some responsibility here.

Upside, the Cream Legbars finally decided to start laying again. 5 eggs from them in 2 days. They went for a conjugal visit this weekend and that seems to have reminded them of their reproductive obligations. On the boys' insistence, we stuck the eggs in the 'bator. Like I need more chicks. They've taken over my garage as it is. Can't really park in there anymore due to the 6 grow out pens that are set up. And then there are the 18 gorgeous Isbar in the brooder room. Yeah, sure, let's hatch a few dozen more, shall we?

The cats must be incredibly frustrated with all those feathered snacks sitting there.

The boys and I spent the day sprucing up the coops here. This winter was pretty hard on them and hey we're seriously looking trashy. We put paving stones around the main coop and one of the others. Makes it look more tidy. Made a few minor repairs and tweaks. Tomorrow I'm going to slap a newcoat of paint on the little coop to spruce it up a bit as well as putting some fresh sand in the runs. The biggest problem with the whole area is that it looks, well, barren. It's pretty and lively when the girls are put wandering and scratching (geez, they can throw dirt and leaves 10 feet out when they get to scratching!), but otherwise, it is so dang plain and blah. I need some decorations or something out here to make it more inviting, but I'm having trouble coming up with ideas. Too shady there to grow anything, even if I thought the chickens would let anything grow. Needs some color and warmth of some kind, though.

Hey everyone it's been awhile.

I've just been trying to do some catching up. I've missed being on here. You guys always make me smile. As always I'm loving my little chickens. I currently have a frizzle polish hen and frizzle polish roo that are just the cutest little pair. They won't leave each others side. I'm praying the little roo won't crow!!! It will break my heart to have to give him up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Sundancen I'm so sorry to here your sad news. So very worried about you. I hope for the best for you. It's hard news to hear.

My daughter is giving me another granddaughter next week. So I'll be up north in the Orem area for a week to help her out.

Fun seeing all the new chicken lovers on here!

I am so happy you got those babies. Well, a rooster isn't a baby. But glad you have them. I feel better now. If you don't want to worry about coming down for this other one. I could be fine with that. :) If you still want the tiny thing, it's still here. Man, I wonder if that rooster is as friendly to people, you will have to let us know. That is just too precious..you got a great shot!

Ha, someone asking for a rooster. Lisa, that's a switch. If you don't have a rooster, I have one that just hatched that looks like it could be a boy. It's going to be mostly white, but has a smoky color over the white on the head/cap.

Welcome Evey!
I have more going to hatch May 8th.
Hey Sasaha..interested in a Houdan? Not sure, maybe not considered a bantam. ?? Anyway, these are all girls. I have 10 coming. Hope they do ok. :/
I spent some more time with the Seramas today, and both roosters are pretty level-headed and don't seem to mind me handling them. Actually...the white roo bred a hen 2 feet in front of me this afternoon, and when he hopped off her back, he landed right on top of my foot, and seemed quite content to roost there until I needed to move. LOL!
There is one hen I'm totally falling in love with. She's teeny and gorgeous, a color I've not seen in person before. She's white based with chocolate....lacing? Speckling? Attaching a pic...

The picture doesn't do her justice at all. iphone pic, inside the barn.

Cynthia...I'll think about the Houdan. If I come get the little black chick, I'll take one, so they can have each other, how about that? I'll let you know by Tuesday what my final answer is!

HELP!
My son rescued this teeny baby from being smooshed in his cow pasture. The bitty thing isn't using the one leg that's curled up under it.
Here is the thing, I have NO knowledge of duckies. We gave it water and scrambled egg which it scarffed down. It is in a little brooder. What now? Chick starter?

Yes! Chick starter, but it MUST be NONmedicated. Ducklings have to have access to water when they eat, otherwise their food won't go down, FYI. :) Also needs to be kept warm until feathered in, like our chicks. I hope it's leg gets better quick! Maybe some swimming would help it, takes the weight off the leg but works the muscles. But no more than about 5 minutes at a time for the new little swimmer. :) Good luck!

I have a little pen I put my teenagers in during the day, it was just open on top but I j had to start putting a sheet of plywood over the top because I had a magpie jump in there and peck one of their eyeballs out. Ewwww it made me mad, and sad, that one of my babies got hurt like that. Now I am pretty paranoid about the little ones being unprotected in the yard until they are much bigger. I had not idea prior to that , that magpies were vicious like that. It caught me off guard!
Those Magpies are horrible!!! I had one steal an egg out of my coop today. From my broody cochin, Frizz.

She was sitting on 4 eggs. I was outside, about 40 feet away from the coop, spraying tree sealer on the fruit trees I pruned a couple days ago. The chickens started going nuts, and when I walked over to the pen, out flew a stupid magpie. 1 developing egg, gone.

Think I'm gonna get me a BB gun!

cyndi, there are duck lovers gallore on here. Type in wild duck thread, see what pops up. Or just duck thread? Maybe you already have. I know there is duck starter. No medicated for this one, I agree with Red..I think I did read that somewhere. Good luck, sure is a cute little one.

Don't give it Medicated Chick Start, you should be fine with Regular Chick Start till you can get duck starter. I know they can also eat chopped up fruits and Vegs, they love lettuce but very chopped up since its so tiny, I just know someone who use to have a duck, but they don't have them anymore. When it gets a little bigger you can give it worms, and crickets etc. So dang cute, makes me want a duck now.

Good Luck

DON'T give medicated feed to ducks...
And what Red said, too. :) I should have known others would have posted hours before me, but I'm glad we have a wealth of knowledge to help each other!

And...duckies LOVE Kale. But yes, chop it super fine. :)

Wow, very exciting to have so many new people here, and welcome back Hattie! Good to see you again. Congrats on a new granddaughter!

Cyndi, that duckling is adorable. I hope she can heal up ok.

I bought a fake owl, and it seems to keep the mice out of my henhouse.

Sasha, that serama is really pretty!

Eveyander, where are do live again? I believe I do have that turken roo for you. My littlest one is ridiculously red and the wattles are coming in way too big  It was a buff baby, but is feathering in really pretty wheaten colored, buff with lots of black on the tips of wing and tail, pretty thing. WIll get pic for you.

Just picked up my chicks from McMurray. 8 NN turkens and 10 EE. Wow the EE are really big and fluffy, hoping that means big eggs. The turkens came in lots of partridge/orange color again, I got 6 of that color, one black and one that is a darker bluish orange color. No white :(

Now I have to figure out, amongst all this mess of chicks and teenagers who is staying, and who can go to chickenstock with me. It is so hard to choose! Aren't ALL chicks adorable? This is gonna be tough!
