Utah!

Just picked up my chicks from McMurray. 8 NN turkens and 10 EE. Wow the EE are really big and fluffy, hoping that means big eggs. The turkens came in lots of partridge/orange color again, I got 6 of that color, one black and one that is a darker bluish orange color. No white

Now I have to figure out, amongst all this mess of chicks and teenagers who is staying, and who can go to chickenstock with me. It is so hard to choose! Aren't ALL chicks adorable? This is gonna be tough!

My EE's lay MONSTER size eggs. Fingers crossed for you.

Thanks! I have three picked out that I want for myself already  I hope they are good ones, crossing fingers for a blue egg layer.

So here is what I am taking to Chickenstock so far:
A few Turken chicks, mostly orange, a few of these fluffy EE's, and some of Diana's frizzle chicks.
A Delaware hen, 2 Blue wheaten Ameraucana hens, (1 has been broody like crazy) , a Houdan Roo, a SLW 4 wk old (Jafar) , a Turken roo 7 wk old (unless eveyander wants it first), a Marans cross that lays pretty speckled eggs, she actually has the coloring of a Welsummer and big black eyes, very sweet. If anybody wants anything let me know :)

Okay, this hen-not-laying thing is getting annoying. My roommates came back from Duchesne today with a whopping TWO eggs from the TEN BLRW hens up there. That's 2 eggs in five freaking days. I'm starting to think there was some kind of lunar misalignment this past week. These are naughty chickens and i shan't bring them treats until they start showing some responsibility here.

Upside, the Cream Legbars finally decided to start laying again. 5 eggs from them in 2 days. They went for a conjugal visit this weekend and that seems to have reminded them of their reproductive obligations. On the boys' insistence, we stuck the eggs in the 'bator. Like I need more chicks. They've taken over my garage as it is. Can't really park in there anymore due to the 6 grow out pens that are set up. And then there are the 18 gorgeous Isbar in the brooder room. Yeah, sure, let's hatch a few dozen more, shall we?

The cats must be incredibly frustrated with all those feathered snacks sitting there.

The boys and I spent the day sprucing up the coops here. This winter was pretty hard on them and hey we're seriously looking trashy. We put paving stones around the main coop and one of the others. Makes it look more tidy. Made a few minor repairs and tweaks. Tomorrow I'm going to slap a newcoat of paint on the little coop to spruce it up a bit as well as putting some fresh sand in the runs. The biggest problem with the whole area is that it looks, well, barren. It's pretty and lively when the girls are put wandering and scratching (geez, they can throw dirt and leaves 10 feet out when they get to scratching!), but otherwise, it is so dang plain and blah. I need some decorations or something out here to make it more inviting, but I'm having trouble coming up with ideas. Too shady there to grow anything, even if I thought the chickens would let anything grow. Needs some color and warmth of some kind, though.

Go to the dollar store and buy some silk flowers. They are in expensive and very colorfil. you can put them in a pot and put them on the sides of coops

Also, I am concerned about my coronation sussex. I've thought for a while that she's overweight, headed into obese. Lately, her crop is always huge, morning or night. I've felt it, and it doesn't feel hard or anything, and she seems to smell fine, so I don't think she has impacted or sour crop. She runs around and acts totally normal. She honestly just acts like she's fat. Is that possible? The way I have my feeder set up, they have free access to food at all times. I'm afraid if I separate her out to get her away from the food, that will be more traumatic. Any ideas?

She was just about to shake her feathers, which is why her neck feathers appear a little fluffed funny.

This is THE FATTEST CHICKEN I have ever seen.

Aww, poor doggie! Magpies act like gangsters, it seems. My grandma had an older cat that they would torment. And they are very observant. I "talk" to them sometimes when I'm outside, just to weird them out. They shut up and look at me like, "What the heck was that?" I've never had a problem with them, other than when they started stealing my chicken eggs, but I let them know when they've come too far into my turf. I just throw things at them, run at them, turn on the hose, things like that. We generally have an understanding, magpies and I

I do not mind them, but when they cross the line, they will pay for it.
oh yeah! I hate those magpies! Our neighbors have an old cat and the magpies all circle around it, making strange noises, just harassing the poor thing. I've been putting my 4 week old chicks out, but I'm sure to always cover the run with bird netting to keep those beasts away. Question... is it illegal to shoot them? I've heard both yes and no. Someone told me they are a migratory bird and fall under an act that protects all migratory birds... But others say they are a pest and it's ok to shoot them.. anyone know?

My EE's lay MONSTER size eggs. Fingers crossed for you.
Mine also lays XXL eggs! :)

I thought Magpies were Mexico's National bird, but looked it up..they aren't. Not sure if they can be killed here or not. ? From what you all are saying, I'm glad I haven't had any around here! I might see one once in a great while..knocking on wood.
