So very sorry, I've rehomed 6 Roos this year. I hated seeing every single one of them leave, and kept saying I will just wait till someone says something. But I let them all go around 6-9 weeks of age, 1st because most of them did start to try crowing, and 2nd my 5 year old loves them all, that I figured it would be better that way. I'm pretty sure 2 of my Silkies are Roos, and I'm really tempted to try and keep one. But I really think I'm going to try and get really good photo's of them, and see if anyone can tell me for sure they are a Roo, and then find them good homes. I know its really sad.Hello All - I'm very sad today as I just confirmed that one of my chicks is indeed a rooster. I'm sad because I think it would be great to have a rooster in my flock to keep the girls safe and together but where I live doesn't allow them...my property size is only .33 what should I do? Should I just hang on until someone complains or is getting rid of him the right thing to do. We are actively looking for a larger home/lot but we haven't found that perfect one yet and I know the minute I get rid of him that perfect house will just show up....![]()
Hi,
I'm sort of new here. I live near Layton, UT by HAFB and I'm wondering if there is a place or someone nearby that would process my chickens. I don't have a lot. About 5 per month or so.
Feel free to reply to this thread or PM.
Thanks
p/s: Looking for a Mayan chicken or whatever other chickens that lay Red eggs.
Thanks Cynthia12 - The little guy is 9 weeks old. When I let them out today he crow'd about 4 times, it was so adorable! I also have a close nit neighborhood and wouldn't want to do anything to upset - I just wish people wanted roos, He's a Golden Campine if anyone is interested.
Welcome merfolk and abw67...hopefully someone will have the answer to your question about processing. I know a few on here are going to learn how them selves.
ab..how old is your cockeral? Has it started to crow yet? The only problem would be when it started. Neighbors are pretty much ok with us having chickens in our close nit neighborhood if we don't have a rooster crowing away. I can't have them either. :/ I personally don't want to have someone complain, and then maybe get things started with others that have chickens. Just a thought.![]()
