Utah!

My neighbor just came over and is going to build a chicken coop, and take my 2 rescued EE, and the last daycare chick which I think is a Delaware and I think I'm going to let her have my Barnevelder. Yippee, now I can look right over the fence and see them everyday.

Cynthia do you still have any RIRs chicks, she was saying she was thinking of getting 2 of those too, and I told her that you might have some that I can pick up with the BLRWs. So let me know if you have any girlie looking ones left, and they will just live here for a few weeks. Well I guess everyone will live here for a few weeks till they get their coop built, but her husband is a handyman, and builds everything. I'm sure they will have a chicken coop mansion compared to my coops, she said give her a week. :D

Hi,

I'm sort of new here. I live near Layton, UT by HAFB and I'm wondering if there is a place or someone nearby that would process my chickens. I don't have a lot. About 5 per month or so.
Feel free to reply to this thread or PM.

Thanks

p/s: Looking for a Mayan chicken or whatever other chickens that lay Red eggs.
Just wanted to say Welcome merfolk!!!

Can't help with the processing; too far away, and I too think you must be thinking of the Maran.

Hello All - I'm very sad today as I just confirmed that one of my chicks is indeed a rooster. I'm sad because I think it would be great to have a rooster in my flock to keep the girls safe and together but where I live doesn't allow them...my property size is only .33 what should I do? Should I just hang on until someone complains or is getting rid of him the right thing to do. We are actively looking for a larger home/lot but we haven't found that perfect one yet and I know the minute I get rid of him that perfect house will just show up....

If you are actively looking for a new home/lot and your neighbors know, maybe they will allow you some time if you speak with them. Good luck!!.

Does anyone have a broody hen that needs a new home? Or one that's usually broody?

Joy..you just missed my Australorp. She is going broody, but I sold her yesterday to a lady that used to have an Australorp, and was happy to get another like hers that has passed..she didn't mind that she was broody. I didn't even know that they did go broody ~ guess they do once in a while, I've just never had one go broody on me until now. Sorry, telling you my story, but no broody girl right now.

Corvidae, Greatest thanks to you and your boys for such an enjoyable visit, and such wonderful Legbars and Whitmore Wels. So excited over both!!

More great news!!!

Tonight, while putting eggs into the lock down drawer, I noticed one lone cheeper already there. Upon searching through the eggs on the upper shelves, I found it to be a guinea keet, my first to hatch from my flocks. YAY!!!

Yay! So happy you have your first hatch from your girls. I so wish one day I will have tons of space and can hatch some for myself. I just might have to for fun next summer. Maybe I will have a broody. I had to look up the Guinea, now I really wish wish I had land to have a few of those, what neat looking birds.

Hi Silly

This is my first guinea keet!!! Last week I had Wels and AMs hatch from my girls. So happy!!!! They are showing a high fertility rate and my inc is working great!! My neighbor tried to hatch her guinea eggs but none were fertile. We've never seen them breed until the other night... I was sitting on a milkcrate and had two guineas about run me over, breeding.

Guineas are the craziest birds ever!!! Those and the peacocks are really entertaining!!

I have some sad new to report. When i returned from Vernal on Sunday my Auracana Darkness was no where to be found. We can't find a body. feathers or anything. She is just gone. She is always so easy to find because she has the chicken version of touretts and sounds like she has the constant hiccups. I am sad she was a favorite. I did pretty well on the road trip and enjoyed my grandchildren, Coming home the trnsmission on out Motorhome froze up and we blacked one lane of traffic for about 2 hours until the cops could get tow truck big enough to handle a 37 ft motorhome. My son drove from LC to rescue us. Even with all the problems i did ok. I'm just glad we weren;t rear ended.

Welcome to all the newbies

Congrats to all the new chicks and hatchers

sundance, so glad you guys made it home ok!

Sorry about your baby missing, maybe she will still show up.

We used to have a motor home. I loved that thing. When I stop and think about it, I still miss it. Had so much fun in it. We had a 40 ft. I would take that thing just up a canyon close to us and live in it practically all summer. Would have grandkids come and stay over night. Even stayed through the first part of school starting, just brought up clothes for Austin, then drove him down to school in the mornings, and picked him up after. I did that for about three years in a row. We went to Fish Lake, Lake Powel. Fun memories. Hope it doesn't take much to get your motor home back on the road. :)

Okay, so with Desert's assistance and some really oddly crazy antics from the boys, we have things a bit more sorted chicken-wise. This is what I have up for grabs, all of them down here in Bountiful:

3 Adult Cream Legbar girls in their first laying seaso
6 Juvenile Cream Legbar girls, about 10-12 weeks old
1 2 week old Cream Legbar girl and 2 boys, same age

All of the Cream Legbars are non-crested.

3 BLRWs, 8-10 weeks old. These aren't from my flock and I personally don't think they are breeder quality, but they do have nice blues on them. They are either a dark blue or a light black-- I really honestly can't tell on them. I'm leaning towards Blue, but like I said, they aren't my stock. They are supposedly from Floey lines and it seems they are slow feathering, so they could turn out considerably better than I think at this point. I'm not even going to try to figure out whether they are boys or girls at this point. Kind of a crapshoot.

There are also 10 BLRW 2 week olds, from my own stock. No Splash, unfortunately, just a mix of Blues and Blacks. I pulled 4 of the Blues out to keep, but I am rethinking that. Possibly not the best idea at this point, especially since I can hatch some in the fall when I have more time. There is no way to tell if they are boys or girls at this age (unless you are talented in vent sexing!).

I left all the BLRW adults up in Duchesne--separated them out into keepers and non keepers and put the non keepers into the "dinner" pen. Cut the flock down to 6 (the best rooster and the best non-blck hens). I'm keeping a couple of the juveniles up there, but otherwise, all are going to go. I just don't have the time or energy and it's too much to ask the kids with everything else they are having to do here.

There is some confusion regarding the Cream Legbar juveniles vs the Welsummer juveniles. We thought we brought down 4 Welsummer girls to stay down here for Joel to watch. Once we got them down here, we realized 2 of them were Cream Legbar girls (hey, they tend to look pretty close!). Desert, you might want to double check those Welsummers you have from Joel. It looks like whoever got into the coop took a whole lot more Welsummers than we thought. The boy you have is definitely a Wellie, but I'm not sure about the girl. Remember the darker colored one that I said, "that's odd, she's a lot darker" on? Well, that's because the others were Cream Legbars. :(

So, anyway, if you all want any of these, they are here for being picked up. I'm working pretty close to every night, 7pm-7am, but if you give me warning you can usually come anytime during the day. If I'm asleep the boys can show you the chickens. Prices are extremely flexible and all the money gets paid to the kids, since they are doing all the work around here.
