Utah!

YES! MARAN. Yeah I'm looking to get one Maran hen/pullet just to have a mix of colored eggs. I have white, brown and blueish green and wanting to add red to the mix.
DesertSprings, where do you live? Problem I have is, after slaughtering my first batch, my wife had nightmares all over again recalling her scary experience when she was little. Now my second batch is done (5 of them) and I can't process them at my place anymore.

Feel free to PM me if any of you know where I can do it (chicken processing) or if anyone is selling a Maran Egg Layer.

So my neighbor that is going to be building a chicken coop this week asked if I could house 4, 3 week old Americana's for her, and I said no problem, since I have her other 4 chicks here that she's getting from me. She brings them back home, and brings them over, and guess what they are Buttercups, they look just like my Queen Bee, with the double comb. She paid $10.00 each for them, so if anyone wants one let me know, they will be at my house. She is going to keep 1 maybe 2 of them, but the other 2 are going to go since she wanted the Americana's. She said the guy bought them at IFA, sexed pullets and he is now moving that is why he was re-homing them. None look boyish to me, really small split/double combs, and they even look more girly then the one I got from Cynthia at this age. But I really don't know. I will get some photo's of them in a few.

Are those the same age as your Queen Bee? I sure see a lot of different sized combs in that breed when I look at them, even in the hens.
It was good seeing you again today. Got my hug from another chicken friend today!
Found a picture of a hen with a good sized comb. It's bigger than a few others that are hens..she's pretty.

Okay, so with Desert's assistance and some really oddly crazy antics from the boys, we have things a bit more sorted chicken-wise. This is what I have up for grabs, all of them down here in Bountiful:

3 Adult Cream Legbar girls in their first laying seaso
6 Juvenile Cream Legbar girls, about 10-12 weeks old
1 2 week old Cream Legbar girl and 2 boys, same age

All of the Cream Legbars are non-crested.

3 BLRWs, 8-10 weeks old. These aren't from my flock and I personally don't think they are breeder quality, but they do have nice blues on them. They are either a dark blue or a light black-- I really honestly can't tell on them. I'm leaning towards Blue, but like I said, they aren't my stock. They are supposedly from Floey lines and it seems they are slow feathering, so they could turn out considerably better than I think at this point. I'm not even going to try to figure out whether they are boys or girls at this point. Kind of a crapshoot.

There are also 10 BLRW 2 week olds, from my own stock. No Splash, unfortunately, just a mix of Blues and Blacks. I pulled 4 of the Blues out to keep, but I am rethinking that. Possibly not the best idea at this point, especially since I can hatch some in the fall when I have more time. There is no way to tell if they are boys or girls at this age (unless you are talented in vent sexing!).

I left all the BLRW adults up in Duchesne--separated them out into keepers and non keepers and put the non keepers into the "dinner" pen. Cut the flock down to 6 (the best rooster and the best non-blck hens). I'm keeping a couple of the juveniles up there, but otherwise, all are going to go. I just don't have the time or energy and it's too much to ask the kids with everything else they are having to do here.

There is some confusion regarding the Cream Legbar juveniles vs the Welsummer juveniles. We thought we brought down 4 Welsummer girls to stay down here for Joel to watch. Once we got them down here, we realized 2 of them were Cream Legbar girls (hey, they tend to look pretty close!). Desert, you might want to double check those Welsummers you have from Joel. It looks like whoever got into the coop took a whole lot more Welsummers than we thought. The boy you have is definitely a Wellie, but I'm not sure about the girl. Remember the darker colored one that I said, "that's odd, she's a lot darker" on? Well, that's because the others were Cream Legbars. :(

So, anyway, if you all want any of these, they are here for being picked up. I'm working pretty close to every night, 7pm-7am, but if you give me warning you can usually come anytime during the day. If I'm asleep the boys can show you the chickens. Prices are extremely flexible and all the money gets paid to the kids, since they are doing all the work around here.

Hello, I am still interested in a couple of legbars. Could I call 2 adults and 2 juvies or babies? I think I can come get them this weekend. Ill ask around and see if anyone around here wants any.

No they are younger, by like 3 weeks or so, but they are not that much smaller then Queen Bee. They look just like her, if she didn't have such a big bright red comb already, I couldn't be able to tell them apart. When we brought them over, I said to her that they are a really bright color for partridge Americana's, and the markings on their face didn't look like an EE either, and then I really looked at them, and sure enough, very small double crown forming combs. She was so excited cause she loves Queenie, but she thinks she is only going to keep 1 maybe 2. Thanks again for the cuties, they are all happy and sleeping when I checked on them about an hour ago. Can't wait to watch their feathers come in.

I have some sad new to report. When i returned from Vernal on Sunday my Auracana Darkness was no where to be found. We can't find a body. feathers or anything. She is just gone. She is always so easy to find because she has the chicken version of touretts and sounds like she has the constant hiccups. I am sad she was a favorite. I did pretty well on the road trip and enjoyed my grandchildren, Coming home the trnsmission on out Motorhome froze up and we blacked one lane of traffic for about 2 hours until the cops could get tow truck big enough to handle a 37 ft motorhome. My son drove from LC to rescue us. Even with all the problems i did ok. I'm just glad we weren;t rear ended.

Welcome to all the newbies

Congrats to all the new chicks and hatchers
Awww.... hate hearing that!!! Do you think maybe someone snatched her? I sincerely hope you find her well and unhurt. Maybe she got out of your yard and someone has her. Hoping

We both thought those looked strange!! Now we know!! I'll check again tonight. Sent you a PM. Taking a break right now.

Spent the entire day 'making' chicken and chick starter feed. DH had tons of food storage here that was a minimum of 24 years old. I know that in an emergency, there is no way he or his family 'would lower' themselves to eating any if it, so, I reasoned which would be good for the chickens and which would make perfect chick starter. Over 800 pounds later I've processed and I'm bushed!!! So glad I kept those empty feed bags.... they are topped!!! Also topped are all feeders!!! Such a feeling of accomplishment.

Getting back to the feed storage. All these were dehydrated, number 10 cans. DH has never understood how much water is needed here to make that much dehydrated food 'work', but would rather think no tragedy will ever occur. Now, upon discussing the dehydrated food, some time ago, with his family, they claimed they wouldn't have a problem using algae river water to re-hydrate. These are grown women (his daughters) who think dirt is appalling, all bees are dangerous and should be destroyed, potatoes cannot be eaten if they have a tiny wrinkle or eye growing, and think any egg laid by a non-commercial hen already has a chick in it ready to hatch. Their biggest concern is if their hair and make up look okay, plus if their purse is the latest brand name and if they have that proper whine in their voices to obtain what they want...

. Yea right, they could eat food re-hydrated from river water.... NOT!!! They would make their father beg, borrow and steal for the finest food still found available!!

So, it's now chicken food.... most of it.... still have more to 'make' tomorrow. Whew!!!

I'm in Duchesne. Quite a ways to go and I'm not even sure if the person I've heard even processes anymore. I'll be in need of a processor too, as I'm just not into the killing part. Processing... no problem.... killing, nope, does something to my psyche and sense of overall compassion that I just don't feel comfortable about.

so with all the water restrictions that they are doing or may do i think it is very wise to store a little water for the chickens just in case. and save some water for you too. always good to think about chickens and other pets when thinking of emergency preparedness. i am a big fan of rain barrels too as they can be a great source of water for pets or plants or whatever.

Absolutely. The more the merrier. I'll PM my phone number and you can text me when you know what day you want to pick them up.

Thanks for reminding me! I was going to get something set out to catch rainwater, even if all I can find is a 5 gal bucket.

Sundance, sorry that Darkness has disappeared

But I'm glad you and your hubby were safe and okay for your trip.

Gotta get outside and work more on the pens. Sorry for the short post.
