Utah!

Silly, I'd just get the all flock or grower. If you have someone start laying, just make sure there's calcium available for them.

Oyster shell. :D
So if I put that out are they okay with the flock grower, I just bought the flock grower last time because IFA was actually all out of chick starter in the big bags, and the guy there said they would be okay with it. I did today just buy another 50 lb back of chick starter for my tiny's, and then get the coupon in the mail. Oh well, I'm still going to go buy 2 bags of food with it, that's $20.00 off food. Yippee

I keep meaning to ask that same question about roosters---if they are getting layer feed that won't work for my boys, would all flock be better? Sphinx is that what you feed your group that has boys in it?

My flock just polished off a 50 pound bag of oyster shell. I bought it last fall.

My boys only got the layer food. The roosters look great so I don't think it hurt them.

Good to know! I wondered if it affected them negatively somehow, maybe fertility. I have given mine layer so far but wondering if I should switch. The boys will be in separate pens soon with just a few hens each that was when I was thinking I should switch if I needed to. But if it's no big deal I won't worry too much :)

So I went over there and ended up buying 4 bags of food, they have by 3 get 1 free. So I bought one more bag of 50 lb chick starter, and 2 bags of All Flock, and then a 50 lb bag of Oyster Shell. So hopefully I will be good for a while, so right now I have 100 lbs of chick starter, 100 lbs of all flock, and about 30 lbs of flock raiser, plus about 40 lbs of scratch and the oyster shell. Whew, I have a bunch of food.

Question on the Oyster Shell, do I just stick it out in like a feeder by itself or do I mix it? And do I need to wait till they start laying to offer it to them. I was giving them chick grit in a dog bowl, and they would go through like 2 plus cups a day, so I stopped since they have plenty of dirt with tiny rocks in their run, because they were eating so much of it, and I didn't think it was good for them to have that much a day, I do put it out a few times a week, not everyday now. Are they going to eat the Oyster Shell the same way?

Sorry, a million food questions. And I hope they like Zucchini, because my neighbor just brought me 5 huge, mega huge zucchini's tonight. So we are going to slice some up for them tomorrow.

I just put the oyster shell in a smaller feeder and set it out. Now that I have so many, I have it in two feeders. I fill it about once a week. The older the hens, the more they eat. The littles just stay out of it they don't eat it at all. I have heard limestone is good too but I have never tried it.

Zucchini--they love that. The newbies/littles might be all terrified of it at first, but once somebody tries it I bet they will all join in :)
If you just split it in half lengthwise and set it out there, they will pick the seeds out and eat it right up. They seem to like pumpkin in halves much better than chopped up. I think because the heaviness holds it in place while they pick at it.
