Utah!

Undimire, Welcome to BYC! We had a terrible problem with rats at the beginning of the spring. I tried everything from BB gun to humane traps to traps to fake owls (the owl worked beautifully on keeping field mice and sparrows away from my feed, for the record), but NOTHING worked. We finally gave up and set out poison. We had to keep our chickens in til it was gone. It was gone within a couple days, and within a week, there was no more signs of rats.

Welcome, Sean!

Red, how's the job search going?

Desert, are you all recovered yet?

Sara, I'm not surprised your cake business is going so well. You are incredibly talented.

Lisa, I DEFINITELY want to go to the poultry show. I'd love it if we could have a BYC party....

My friend has a buff orpington that was hatched in February and it's already gone broody. She's getting ready to move out of state. She's GIVING it to me, with two jars of salsa to sweeten the deal. I need more chicks or a broody hen like a hole in the head, but I've been contemplating an orpington (though I was eyeing the blues and the lavenders), so this will be fun. I'm going to break her of the broodiness. My two frizzles FINALLY got off the nest. I swear they were there all summer.

Hey guys!!

Long time no chat =)

I seriously can't seem to get my life in order, and although I thought kiddos being in school would help, in a way it hasn't!! (Although, I'm sitting down for a moment to write, I guess that says something!! lol)

Okay, I know I'm being a loser for just hopping on for this, but, oh well, haha!!

I am selling a pair of Rhodebar chicks I have.... They are an autosexing breed of brown egg layers, the hens are great layers of a large light brown egg. Autosexing means that they breed true, you don't have to have certain breeds like sexlinks to be able to sex the chicks. The chicks are really easy to tell at hatch: The pullet has the dark chipmunk stripes, the roo is lighter with the headspot... They hatched July 4th... Unfortunately, I do not have room for them

Here they are now:

The red barring is actually quite pretty, and they are great foragers already. I am asking $45 for the pair. Greenfire is still asking $49 for a day old pullet chick, plus shipping ($35-50 express), a breeder in CA is asking $35 for a day old pullet chick, plus shipping, for comparison... These guys are well-started and the roo chick is getting kind of heavy, I"m told the roos weigh 8-9 pounds when grown, so they have potential as a dual-purpose bird. We have family in Ogden, so they could go on the chicken train if you needed...

I am finding the ads on the right quite interesting. I wonder, are they tailored to each viewer or do we all se the same ones? There seems to always be ads for things I was recently viewing....I feel like I am being stalked.....

You are being stalked. From Google Search. Perhaps others too.

There is good info on this at http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57368016-285/how-to-prevent-google-from-tracking-you/ , including instructions on how to opt out of Google targeted advertising.

Pretty sure that this one I just hatched, is a girl. :))

Glad to hear that they are good layers!

Had a photo shoot today! :) Thought I'd share...

The mom of this grey hen was a silver laced wyandotte... What could the father have been? Do you see the brown tint on her bosom? She hasn't earned a name yet...

The main-man... RUFIO, in all his manly glory.

This weeks eggs from our White Leghorn cross, and bantam Barred Rock. (Our Wheaten Ameracauna is molting... I think)...

So my wife and I went for a walk... and this is what we saw! ^

And these were along the canal behind our house! Crazy, right?

Do you live just a few blocks west of me? I saw those same ducks and deer!

Delarooshens, those rhodebars are awesome, and what a great deal! I bet someone will snatch them up. My legbar chick is turning out really nicely. He managed to fertilize an egg that hatched back the first week of June! Imagine my shock when a barred baby came out! I actually have a pretty funny (though not super helpful) shot I took about 5-6 weeks ago. His chick is photobombing in the front of the picture, and you can see the legbar in the background in the other enclosure. As fun bonuses, the FBCMs that Silly has are right behind the photo bomber, the silkie I bought from Lisa is next to them. Then, Houdini, the rooster that Sundance gave me is in the other enclosure, and that white cockerel is also a gift from Sundance. I need to get rid of him, but haven't wanted to until the worming treatment is complete.

BluJems, that's a cute flowerpot!
