Hey Sphinx, remember the three Icees you hatched out for me? I'm pretty sure they are all boys, haha

True to the breed. They are terribly cute, though. Two of them have topknots - one is a BIG topknot! One of the chicks thinks that no matter where I'm standing, there has to be something good under my feet, so he's always scratching and waiting for me to lift up my foot so he can see what's there. Crazy little guy. I'm thinking that two of them may end up mottled (yay!) The white one is staying all white, with a very light dusting of rust on his chest. I'll try and get pictures soon. I sure love my babies.

Picture overload for Lisa the pro! Is it too early to get an idea of the sex of this little SG?

This is one sweet heart of a bird. Very friendly.

Cynthia i dont know about the SG but with my little Silkies i can tell at about 7-8 weeks. The comb looks swollen and the wattles, even though really small, turn red.

10 weeks old.

dont mind the messy face he was eating squash.

Cynthia, do you remember that funny little feather that poked out from under Cottons wing. All 3 of the chickens i still have from her have that little feather poking out on the same wing. I wonder if any of Silly's have the same feather? Her two hens she keep was from Cotton.

Gary, this is something I will watch for. She isn't old enough yet, but it won't be long.

And, I think I remember a poky feather on Cotton! Guess what? I have Cotton's siblings in lock down right now. Maybe some white ones, we will see. Partridge for sure, and a blue. The others will be a surprise. She has paints now, so that would be fun.

Pancake, sorry for the loss of your chicks, too sad.

Red, good luck to your BF in court. You lost your only female icelandic chick? I'm so sorry! So how many cockerels do you have? I'm dying to see how the chicks looked that I hatched for you. You've got to have at least one pullet in the bunch. Sight unseen, I'm going to insist there's one.

Tellorton, that chick is way too old to tell feathers on. Only some breeds are feather sexed, and that only works for a few days after hatch. You'll probably have to wait til they're bigger.

AceMario, CONGRATULATIONS on your baby!!!!! You're going to be such a great dad. Hope everyone is doing well.

Madchicken, that is helpful with the silkies. I have the one silkie that I really am dying to know gender on. I may take some close up pictures and see what you think. I'm leaning towards girl.

Blujems, I sure I wish I could take those hens. You have such beautiful stock.

I am in such a bad mood. I realized Saturday that my hens have LICE. So grossed out. Last night I dusted them with Sevin dust. Hoping it works. Some were more resistant to dusting than others. The big rooster was incredibly resistant, so I definitely didn't do a good job on him. He doesn't look at all scraggly, so hopefully he doesn't have them. Then, as I was dusting, I saw a dropping and it had a good amount of worms in it. I'd fed the chickens the Rooster Booster dewormer, and they've been off of it for 5 days or so, so I'm thinking it didn't work. I am going to try and get some safeguard and treat them individually with that. So unhappy about them being infested.

Darn if I can find my ivomectin I;ll let you know

Hey sphinx, that post reminded me--that silkie chick I brought you, did it turn out to be splash or white? and gender? On the others from that hatch, i can see the boys...just barely getting red around the mouth. And the windswept thing....I think I have two boys and two girls left. The bearded ones are a little harder to see, but the red is definitely there on two and not on the other two.

Wendy, I remember when I first started selling chickens. lol..it was a really nice lady, that turned my bird on it's side, and started looking around her vent, under her wings...I ask, what are you doing? She says, I am looking to see if she has mites. I don't think I even said anything, probably didn't have to from the look on my face. My birds...mites?! She chuckles and says, they get them. I ask. How? She educated me a bit that day. She simply said, these are birds. They can get mites, lice, because they are birds..and they are out and about with the other wild birds. It's on the ground, it's here, it's there. I remember looking everything up on the net once I learned that my girls could get what those wild birds had. Of course, it only makes sense. It's hard seeing our birds infested.
If you still want..I do have the two different kind of wormers..you start with the Wazine first..then go with the block buster. Let me know if you want some. I have plenty..just come get some..no charge.

For the lice, I still use that spray that Lisa mentioned a while back. I don't dust, I just sprtiz! Twice a year. Seems to work. It's the stuff you buy in the pet stores for canaries, and other indoor pet birds. A spritz around the vent, under the wing, on the thighs, on the back and front of the neck. :)) Rub it in around the neck area and up toward the chin and ear lobes.
