Utah!

Silly, I have some fbcm eggs if you want to grab some of those. I'm also willing to incubate your eggs for you.

Cynthia, I'd love to snag a couple of her legbars- a rooster and a pullet or two. You know I do all of those school hatches, so maybe I count?

Okay, so I returned the one with all the special bells and whistles, since Cynthia and Lisa said I didn't need it, and I know they hatch a lot. So needless to say even though Cal Ranch said they had that Incubator in stock, not one store in Utah County or as far as I would drive up in Salt Lake actually had that incubator, even though online it said it does.

So the only one I could find was a Little Giant at IFA, its a still air. I did get a digital Temp/Humidity monitor from Walmart for $9.00. So if I need to get a different incubator then the Little Giant, I will have to order one, since this is all Cal Ranch and IFA had in stock. They said they won't be getting any until March.

So let me know if its going to work before I set it up. I figured I would set it up and have it up at least 24 hours before I put eggs in. I have 2 from yesterday, and 2 from today. The other 3 I got from the last 2 days, I missed and they were frozen, so I just decided those are for eating.

So right now I have 2 NN, 1 Maran, and 1 RIR egg. Hoping to be more on top of it tomorrow to get a few more. But I had to run out today, and couldn't baby sit them laying.

Still don't know who the Mister is outside. And I hope these eggs really are fertile or it will be really sad not to hatch anything out. With my luck I will mess it all up.

Gary if I could at least get a few eggs from you, I don't really care what they are, just incase mine are all duds, my 5 year old is super excited to hatch eggs, I think she has asked me a million times today, how long it will take them to hatch out. And she's already asked if she can take it for show and tell. I guess if I get it to work fairly easily, Maybe I will see if her kindergarten teacher would like to try it out in class. We will just have to see.

Thanks everyone for your help.

So i have some good news and bad news. Bad news i came home to a dead bird tonight. She was one of my layers. She acted a little lethargic yesterday but was eating. I found her in the coop on the floor. No sign of any disease or health problems. Not quit sure to make of it. On a good note one of my new OE's from Sphinx has started to lay and only 22 weeks old.

Karen, i have 3 eggs for you going to get a couple tomorrow. Still waiting for a BSL and my SBE layer. Do you have your incubator set up yet? I am not sure how they work, but i know they need to be set for a few days to get them working right. My incubators come with feathers (and a lot of attitude). I just put the eggs next to them, look down and grab another egg put it were i put the last egg that has now disappeared and that's all it takes. Just make sure you keep your eggs on an angle and change the angle 2 or 3 times a day and they will last for about a week. You have to change the angle to keep the yolk from sticking to the shell.

Sweet! I'm going to set it up tonight after I get the kids down for bed. Hopefully it will work out pretty well. The guy at IFA said that its one of their best sellers. And they never have people returning them. He knew a lot about it, and talked me through setting it up. So hopefully I can get it working great.

Yes, they are at an angle. I did read that somewhere a while ago, so I knew that, and they have been changed twice already today. I'm so very nervous to set them, I hope I don't cook them alive or something. I'm going to be a nervous wreck the whole time, after reading so many horrible hatch stories.

Hopefully my next ones will be by a Silkie. I would love to see a momma with some Chicks, but my darn Silkies haven't even laid one egg yet.

Let me know when you would like me to come by, I'm pretty open on a time frame. And thanks so much for the eggs. I hope I can get some to hatch, and find out who the little Mister is outside, but I have a feeling it might be the Light Brahma, and I tried so hard last summer to get that chick. Oh well. It is what it is.

Karen, the Little Giant is great..I have one of those too.

It's my very first one. I have an egg in it right now. A lonely little egg. I hatched two Rhodebars and a Marans today for the Hatch A Long. A boy and a girl. Plus, one of the Marans made it. It is such a pretty blue! But, I think it's a boy already. :/ If anyone wants a blue Marans roo in the future, let me know..unless it ends up looking girly of course. :)

They are so cute. I'm so excited to have some little chicks again, but so very nervous I'm going to do something wrong, and kill them somehow. The guy at IFA was really helpful. He told me to leave the temp at 99.5-99.9 and have the humidity at 50% or so and towards the end I need to raise it up to 65%. So I hope this is all right. I'm going to get it out of the box and set it up tonight. I'm just trying to decide where to put it, my house downstairs is so cold, and my upstairs goes from cold in the morning to really hot at night.

I'm really thinking of putting them up in my loft, so that way there is no way the kids or the dogs will be anywhere near them. But I'm afraid of the temp. change upstairs. It does get about 76 somedays up there, and at night goes down to around 69. But of course I will be hand turning them, so I guess I will be watching the temp throughout the day doing that.

Any pointers?
