I have a few more NN's going into lock down tomorrow.
And, I have 13 viable Silkie eggs..going strong..will hatch first part of April..3rd or 4th.

Just call me in the morning when you have about the time you think it's going to be. Then a call later just before you leave, I will have them ready.

Two EE's, and the OE right? Would he want another EE ya think? About the same age as the older one he's taking.

Erykah, I am thinking I want to get rid of a couple of my hens, but they're older than one. More like 3 years old. I *think* they're still laying well, but they lay light brown eggs, which is kinda boring.

Lisa..Shpinx! What is that drop of stuff you were talking about to get rid of mites? I think it is for dogs..but you said it was good for chickens? I have been checking out my girls, was really pleased that I wasn't seeing anything, until my last girl! Oh my goodness! Why just her? I have straw out there, and expect to see them on the chickens after a winter of straw, but, was so surprised at how well they were doing. But like I said, the one girl..oh dear. I may have to oil her up.

I have come across a few things now...the dog stuff is "fipronil", found in Frontline..also Ivermax pour-on for cattle is interesting, it works the same, a few drops on the bird and it is cheaper...

The ivermectin without a doubt worked great, but not sure about the safety with egg withdrawal times, I went ahead and used it in the fall it was awesome...

Also you could search on here, there was a sheep treatment that people were putting in their drinking water and that worked, that seems to be the easiest of all...can't find the link at the moment but I will keep looking and post it if I can find it. I was going to try that one next time.

On that link---Post #84 says Frontline does not go to the eggs...Also Cynthia you can get the vials that are for the Biggest dogs, iyou get more for your money, the concentration is supposedly the same, you just use a drop or two. Walmart had some generic version of this stuff for pretty cheap. This was a post on there too:

"Revolution and Frontline are different ingredient.
Frontline contains fipronil and methoprene.
On further research, both these ingredients have been used in poultry for parasite control with no ill effects.
So yes you can use Frontline on Poultry.
The documented dosage is 0.067 mL/kg of Frontline (dog or cat versions)
Chicken owners don't bother measuring it and just apply 3-4 drops of Frontline to the back of the chickens neck."

Make sure you use gloves--it absorbs through the skin in your fingers.

Thanks Lisa.. I am going out for some "stuff" today. lol...acutually it isn't funny.
I've been reading around on here, and dawg..I love that guy, he knows his stuff..says that seven is a great dust for the problem. And, you can put a teaspoon of it in each nest box..as those little suckers fall from the hen into the next boxes..as we well know.
I am going to buy both today..I think..can I get the Frontline in a grocery store..or does it have to be from a Pet store?

Oh boy, this sounds fun..but seems to work great.

vomec products are ineffective against internal parasites, nor will they kill lice. They will kill mites though.

Put sevin dust in a bag. Then put the chicken in the bag with its head sticking outside the top of the bag, hold it firmly by the neck with bag in hand...then "shake and bake" the chicken. Release the chicken from the bag, she'll shake herself off and go about her business.
You have to treat inside the coop and nests as well. Put a pile of sevin dust at the entrance door to the coop. Then hit it with your leaf blower full blast. It'll look like a smoke bomb went off inside the coop, the dust gets in every crack and crevice and settles. Make sure there's no birds in the coop, wear old chicken clothes and a mask when dusting.

Cynthia--yup--I spread Sevin in the nest boxes, and I put a few cups of it in their dust bath area, that seems to help alot. I have thought about getting the spray, and spraying their underparts while they are on the roost bar at night, easy access while they are up their all sleepy lol but have not done it yet until it is a little warmer.
