Utah!

I need to get some sand for my run. Does anyone know of a great place to get some?
I'd check out Lowes and home depot first just to make it easy and see if they have the heavy duty sand with larger pieces in it, not the playground sand. I guess its suppose to be better for the chickens. And then if they didnt have any, maybe look on ksl. There are some ads on there for those rock/dirt/sand quarries and might carry all different types. I know those are typically the cheaper way to go to and will deliver larger amounts which your going to want for your larger coop :)

Thanks! I didn't even think of checking ksl. Good idea! I picked up a small bag of washed sand at Home Depot today so that I could put a tiny little dust bath in my brooder (which my babies love!) but it seemed a bit pricey for enough to fill the run.

Oh for sure! Ksl is definitely the place to look to get large truck loads or whatever you want and the price is usually pretty reasonable :)

Those are way nice! I love it :) So.. You are the maker of these chick feeder stations??? I was looking into these a few weeks ago and you guys said you'd let me know once you've created a larger container. I was thinking of putting my babies on these type of waterer but want to be sure there is no leakage because I may put them into their wood coop during winter and want to make sure theres no chance of leakage and molding the wood. Also not sure about how to keep it thawed in winter. And with the feeder, is there anyway the chicks and adults could make a mess with their food and maybe rake it out with their beaks?
This particular feeder (2 quart) is for older chicks that can't fit into the port. There is a larger port size for hens. With this style they have to put their heads into the hole to get to the feed. There is a bit of a lip so they don't pull the food out. The smaller feeder for the littles is a 45 degree port and a determined chick could pull some out but mine don't. There is a flow guard in those that keep the feed farther to the back to discourage this. If you want a one gallon feeder, we're working on those still. We do have the 3 quart with the juvenile/hen port that mounts to the side of the brooder/coop ready.

For the waterer, I used this exact one for my polish last winter. I set it directly on a seedling heat mat on top of a cinder block and it never froze. We're working on a heated "box" of sorts to install these drinkers into for small coops. It will be a low wattage unit that mounts to the side of the coop and contains 1 gallon of water. Another thought for winter, you can get 2 or 3 gallon buckets with this nipple system from Susan at All'Bout Chickens and drop in a bird bath de-icer.

Whats lockdown referring to? Sorry, im a newbie when it comes to the incubation stuff, as ive never done it before... yet ;)
I don't think anyone answered you so I will try! Lockdown is when you stop rotating your eggs during the last three days of incubation. You don't want your chicks to hatch out in one of the automatic turners as it could harm or kill the chicks, so you remove the turner and place the eggs on their side and 'lockdown' the incubator by not opening it again until you have fuzzy chicks to pull out.

I have some of the feeders you make and love them! (The petroleum jelly worked!!) Here is a little video I took of my fuzzies this morning using them. Poor babies haven't even been home with me for 24hrs and I have already had pasty bum issues with three of the six.
