Utah!

OMG, is that blood on her feathers, I'm truly sorry. I feel so bad. Here is some other photos of her, taken the last few days if anyone thinks that she might be a he. I posted her on the Silkie thread and they thought she was a girl. 4 months old, no crowing either, at least not here.

I say definitely girl. She looks just like mine before her crest got even bigger then this but the combs & crest shape look the same. I think she looks girly :)

I have a wire cage, just in case I want to break a broody. Which, I just may in the future if I keep all of my Silkies. :) It is up on legs..a nice rabbit cage..older, but will work, I hope.

Speaking of broodys, I'm going out tonight to candle some eggs that are to go into lock down..under mama hen. :) May sneak a couple more under her. She is doing great.

I think my favorite lil splash is looking like a roo! Ever sense its crest started coming in, its been looking funky on top..not round like my others. It just sticks straight up like a mohawk, and its tail doesent look as round either, it just kinda sticks out to, and I swear its comb is looking wide.. Such a sweetheart, and I love how fluffy its getting but I cant help but feel its turning roo-ish which would mean goodbye :( What do you guys think?

I agree..we are getting ready to leave to go visit our grandson for the time! When I get back, I'll take a photo of my splash. Nice round top. Where did you get this one? Not one from me is it? Very pretty. I may try another roo, maybe it will have a more quiet voice? With the collar on? I can try. lol..

So I moved both Mommas outside to the grow out pen with mini coop today. They are loving being outside. But now I have the Cochin outside of the coop with her 2 babies, and the stupid Silkie is trying to take those 2 away, and hers are still in the coop where she left them. I can't figure out if she really is just a horrible mom or she really just wants to still sit on eggs. Not sure if its being about to go outside since I've cooped them up for the last 5 days, or if its because now she wants to be mom, but doesn't know which babies are hers. I've put her back in 3 times now with her 2 babies, and she runs back out and tries to steal the other 2 from the Cochin, and she's starting to really get mad at the Silkie. I'm praying I NEVER have broody's together again, too confusing for this HUMAN momma.

Karen, just like humans, it sounds like not all chickens are cut out to be mothers LOL!

I just set eggs----I tried to collect eggs from the best girls--big eggs and frequent layers, hoping they hatch, I read somewhere the bigger eggs are not as easy to hatch? Is that true? I have a couple hens I would love offspring from, hoping the laying gene passes down :D So, if anybody knows anyone on here looking for chicks...send 'em my way! There are some sex linked eggs in there, so there will be some "fo sho" girlies.

I got this one from Chase. I really like her birds when they are healthy and this one was perfectly healthy right from the start. It has nice leg feathering and is getting super fluffy. I just cant have roos. So i'll probably sell him if your interested. I have 2 other younger splash I am watching, and hoping at least one is a girl.

So I just went back out to check. All 4 babies are now outside, but no surprise they are with the Cochin. Lisa if I don't get any eggs for the broody's, I want 3 Splash Marans to see if I can get at least 1 pullet. :D

And of course. Babies first day out...
