Utah!

LaCasa de Pollo (Lisa) and I met up yesterday evening despite the horrible traffic to allow me to adopt her hen Bertie who now will be called B'Jewell. We are happy to add her to our little flock and she is finding her way around here and her place in our flock.
This morning when I went out to see how she did in the night I found her "hiding out" in the coop and after a while I took her out to let her roam the yard.
The others are kind of puzzled I think as to what she is doing there and other than our Black SL Jackie seem to bo OK with their new flock-mate.
She seems to enjoy having the run of the backyard and has already enjoyed several worms from the garde LOL
This is her this morning

Eeek, thanks I had no idea how serious it was. I just saw this lil thing in distress and had to help. I hope that wasn't reckless of me being preg and all. I'm due to have my baby in two weeks. That's a creepy thought that it would be hiding in their coop bitsy, I sure hope not. I really doubt it though cause their whole run is mostly covered and it would have to get past the chickens to target their little door to get in. I saw the whole thing happen and the bat was on the outside of the run and my gold girl was trying to get at it, and eventually pulled it through the gap where the door is. I really hope she wasn't bit in the process. The only one who made noise and acted scared was the bat and I quickly covered it with a bowl till I got a bucket and scooped it in there. It was only in contact with one of the chickens for only a few seconds. This evening I just dumped it in the field across the street from us and it just hopped away but didn't fly. I hope it'll be fine. I called animal control but they were no help and I didn't want to hang into it anymore just incase. I don't know if it was maybe injured before the chickens found it or after. The whole thing was just odd to me to find a bat in our backyard.
glad that it wasn't in the coop until your chicken pulled it through. I hope it doesn't have rabies :( I understand what you're saying though.... me, I would have grabbed my gloves and held the thing LOL! I wouldn't have though much about rabies.

I had the best time with the chicken judging at the fair today. I entered 10 chickens so I could get a free parking pass. Here are the results of the judging and yes I won big My white frizzled Serama Psyco was reserve champion. The judge loved him. If his temperment was better he would have won best. but I'll take second best champion He is not named Psyco for nothing. I also won best silkie with the gray girl I bought in Arizona, I won best cochin with the frizzled cochin pullet, I win best sizzle with a black sizzle girl I raised from Hercules, All of those wins auctually beat several birds in the judging queue, I also won Best dUncle with my Mille flor. But she was the only Duncle so that wasn't really a win. I'll take some pictures after they hang the ribbons so you guys can see them. Also I bought the cochin girl at chickenstock from a little girl who was selling her. Does anyone on the list know how to reach her I wanted to tell her how well she did.

Awesome Sundance! Your Seramas are so beautiful, I am happy to hear they did so well!

We took ours down this morning, pics to follow...

Cathie, glad it is going ok so far. Maybe they are scared of her due to the molten look...lol you should have seen her a month ago! Somebody thought she was a turken. Haha :D I miss her already, she is a sweetie.

Ok first pic, this is OREO, grand reserve shampion from last year. Ready to defend her title. Wish us luck, there was another there exactly like her. Ours has a better crest, but a broken tail feather on the very tip. Theirs looked pretty good!

Haha oh I thought about holding it but didn't have gloves and remembered that I better be smart about it lol. I hope it didn't have rabies either, and hopefully it will survive. I'm sure the chickens are all fine. It was all so fast.

I hate to be such a stick in the mud but I know someone who died of rabies years ago. If you chicken had hold of the bat and pulled it through the fence she is possibly exposed. I wish that you had DWR pick up the bat and have it tested just for your safety. Meanwhile don't touch any of the chickens before you give birth. good luck

How would I know if one was exposed? Wouldn't she be acting sick? Wouldn't she have to of been bitten ? Why would I get sick just by holding the chickens?
