Utah!

I am officially nervous as heck about my first time incubating eggs Ahhh! Seriously though, ive been googling info all week until my brain hurts trying to educate myself with the best tricks to ensure a good hatch but im still terrified of doing everything I can and still getting a bad hatch or none. I really hope I do everything correctly and get at least a couple paints.

quite frankly you would have probably done better to practice on an easier breed to hatch silkies are hard. Cynthia and Lisa are pros. Do what they say and not the web those two are very experienced

Is this the one you used with the LG? Was it pretty accurate for you? I noticed its kinda wide. Did you just place it on top of the egg turner?

That's my fav one. You have an egg turner? Well then, hopefully it will fit on the side ..make sure it doesn't get in the way of stopping the turner. I used a smaller one that fit in pretty good. Accurate? I don't think any of these are accurate..you would have to go spendy and buy some of those that you see some folks using..that can be calibrated. I get the temp in the mid 30's for incubating..I'm happy, I get the temp for lock down in the 62% to 64% range, I'm happy.

I just sold another bator. :D

Oh I asked Cynthia already. I am doing everything she said, and more. Not sure what else to try to ensure the best chance.

I have this same one. It either says 97, 99, or 102. never says 98.100. or 101....so if my other digital thermometer says anywhere between 96.5 and 98.9 it says 97 and if my other one says 99.0 - 101.9 it says 99. I do not know if mine is defective or what! But I keep it in there because I know if it hits 102 it is really bad! I bought one on Ebay that has the decimal point (97.0 instead of 97 or 99) and I really like being able to tell the temp with the 1/10th percentage reading. It seemed very accurate when calibrating it to the refrigerator and the aquarium thermometer. I keep two aquarium thermometers in there too just for backups. They are two bucks at petsmart and are amazingly accurate, double check by dipping in ice water to get 32 degree reading....but they are good to have as a backup. The down side is they are hard to see, the digits and lines are small.

So I'm at the store seeing if they had one of those wire ones. There is this one.

The best way to educate yourself? Practice. Of course you are dealing with life and creation, which is so miraculous being a part of, and it is so easy to be emotional if something happens... And justified. Just remember, you are being given the chance to help bring some little chicks to the world that never would have gotten here without you! You might not get them all, but when you even get one, it makes it all worth it. Just get ready for an amazing journey!

Hey Ace, how is that second batch of eggs coming along? I wonder if the SBEL OE egg was fertile, I had to toss some in my last batch, the rooster seems to be liking the black hens more than the white ones these days!

Hey everyone. I have a dilemma. Yesterday 2 guys came to buy some roosters from me. I sold them 4 but they really liked my bleeding rooster. I come home tonight and my jubile orphington rooster is gone . I've looked everywhere . It's a 75 dollar bird . Do I get the cops involved?
