Utah!

Hey everyone. I have a dilemma. Yesterday 2 guys came to buy some roosters from me. I sold them 4 but they really liked my bleeding rooster. I come home tonight and my jubile orphington rooster is gone . I've looked everywhere . It's a 75 dollar bird . Do I get the cops involved?

Would not hurt to mention it to the police, if it was not those guys they have nothing to worry about, if it was they deserve to be caught IMO! Sorry to hear about this!

I bought 4..4..of those aquarium ones..none of them seem to work. I actually put them all in a bator once, close to each other, to see if they would read the same..they didn't! They were way off. Not sure what that was about.

Yes, the one I really like is the first photo you showed Iluv.

so glad you were able to find some turkeys red!

so i just realized that my first set of girls that make up most my flock are 4 years old now. but they still lay around 5 eggs each a week, sometimes more. and you should see the size of some of the eggs. i am not going to rotate them out :)

Thank you! And happy birthday to your girls! My oldest girls are two and still going strong. My poor BR is half naked from moult and still giving me about three eggs a week. Now that's true love.

hopefully you will have some baby icees midweek

I don't know what I'm going to do with myself! Having all of these babies again is acting as an antidepressant for me. Now I just have to ignore the fact that I'll be selling most of my babies off in the near future, since I can't keep them all :(

You clucking, that's terrible! I hope they didn't take your Jubilee.

I'll try to get a pic of the hygrometer I use in my bator. It's been quite reliable, from what I can tell. I got it off Amazon for like $12 - well worth the peace of mind. I move it around the bator every couple of days when I'm hatching.

So funny how much they all vary! Iluv, you just really have to find ones that work best for you, but get a couple and pick the ones that are closest lol! I went through so many thermometers at first to get some i felt confident in. The ones that come with the styrobator are usually way off too. Sorry this is probably frustrating you and not helping. :barnie

You are right Lisa, just have to keep looking until you find the one that works for you..who knows, maybe the reason they are different for us is because of the difference in temp and humidity in each of our individual homes. I just explained that to the person that bought my bator tonight, that he will find that each room will make a difference if he moves the bator around. I am hoping these folks come onto BYC..he said his wife has been looking on here, but not registered. Maybe they will. \

Have to edit to say..still don't get why those aquarium ones all read different at the same time though. ??

Oh heck ya there is only one room in my house I dare hatch eggs in anymore lol. Between windows, air vents, A/C and heat, the fluctuation in day and night temps right now and where the bath/showers are located (and teens taking 1/2 hour showers grrr) ....gah! I have been using a front room on the north side of house. Vents shut, window shut, and a fan on to keep the air circulating. So far so good on this hatch. I have had no spikes at all, I had to ditch the still air because it seems to have a short and spike too much so I am using the one with the fan and turner (we have been camping on weekends so the turner has been helpful). I always prefer the still air and hand turning, but that bator was acting up so we will see how this goes I had to switch. Really happy with the steady temps so far, just trying to keep humidity steady, and with the rain and such that has been up and down a little. I am due to hatch Sunday/Monday. The downside is I have Marans in with Silkie eggs, and the Marans prefer a dryer hatch, so I worry I will lose more of one breed. Liz was saying she thinks the Silkies need a bit more humidity, she has hatched a few batches of my eggs and the ones she dry hatched with the Marans had tons of blood rings and early deaths. The ones with steady +35 perc humidity hatched great.

I have to say Cynthia I am really surprised you have not caved in and started hatching again. This is like a record for you now lol :yiipchick

Ya it's a little frustrating only cause im trying so hard to get it right the first time so I get the best chance possible with my first time hatching. I'll cry if I loose all or most of them. I tried to calibrate the new one I just got (with the wire probe) by using one of our digital oral thermometers. I filled a glass of water and sticked them both in there. A couple times they ran up to the same number and a few times the wire probe thermometer was off by a degree. It works alot faster though then the first one I got. I put the new one (with probe) down through the vent whole and dangled it right next to the fatter one I got before, and compared the two and they are very different. I turned up the incubator just to see if the other one would rise and it wont. The new one went up to 105 and the first one I got stayed at 95. So I turned it back down and got the new one to 95 just to see if the other would would drop and is hasent. The humidity is totally off also. The first one is saying 30 and the new one is saying 45. Soo.. I am not sure which is more accurate. I feel more confident with the newer one I got simply because it reads faster then the first one and it read very close to what the oral thermometer does. So would it be safest to try to leave the over all temperature at 100 during the entire incubation to give it a little head room incase it drops a little or raises a little?
