So my 4 eggs under my broody didn't hatch... I think it's because I didn't set them for 10 days. The air cells were half the egg...

On a happy note, my eggs in he bator are doing great!

Quick story: we were getting ready to leave for park city, so I put my eggs in lockdown. I decided to go out and feed and water the chickens before I left for the weekend. Well, my broody hen (who was sitting on the four eggs that had huge air cells... Like half the egg) got off the nest and ran for her favorite treats. Well, I check the eggs one last time to make sure they won't explode until I get back on Sunday... And guess what! One of the eggs had pipped!!! It is a serious miracle!

Well, I hadn't prepared anything for the hen or chicks (I was going to fence off part of the coop) cause I don't think they'd hatch... Well, I got an ingenious idea to just pull out the separation between the nest boxes and fence it in... So the hen will be alone in the nest boxes with her one or more chick/s.

I hope she'll be ok!

That's so awesome ! I'm still deciding whether to let my hen hatch my eggs or if I should leave them in the bator. I kinda wanna leave them so I can experience the miracle for the first time and keep a close eye but then I also want to make sure they hatch no matter which way it happens. I wanna give them the best chance. Why did your eggs have large air cells? Don't the hens make the perfect amount of humidity?

This can happen often when the air sac is big, up one side and the other. No room in there!

my silkie eggs always have a huge air sac sometimes over 1/3 of the egg.

Is this ok? I was reading that if they are too big that it means the humidity is way too low and they are getting shrink wrapped. And that if the air cells are too small that they are getting too much humidity and can drown. I noticed the air cells on a couple of the developing eggs are kinda messed up probably due to the shipping. They are dipping down on two sides rather then one spot on the top. Is this going to create any difficulties during hatching? Also I noticed a couple developing a day or two behind the others. Only because it took that long for them to become noticably developed to me. Does that mean there were some ahead of others, or are they the same age since they began incubation at the same time? And will this mean they will hatch a day or two apart from each other or no?
