Utah!

I feel like I'm the only one on this thread right now!

Ok... so here's the other two checks that hatched. Unfortunately I was at work, so I can't tell which is which!

Lisa, correct me if I'm wrong... but one of them was a SBEL OE, and the other was a White Leghorn Australorp. Is that right?

The weird thing is that both of the chicks had feathered feet. Why would a Austrawhite have feathered feet?!? That is why I'm wondering if maybe it wasn't an Austrawhite...

One chick had a straight comb, and the other had a pea comb... so I would assume the SBEL OE has the pea and the Austrawhite has the straight. Right?

And here are the eggs they came from:

Aww! look at the white chicks! And that sizzle is so cute!! Almost all mine that hatch are blue or black, I get very few whites. The white egg is from the mom that is an Austrawhite (1/2 Leghorn 1/2 Australorp) and the daddy is the Blue Marans roo, that is why the feathered feet on everybody. That would be the chick with the straight comb for sure, the peacomb chick is your olive egger from an SBEL mama and the blue Marans roo. I am shocked that one was white, I have not gotten any whites from those yet :D Awesome! They are so adorable. So how many chicks total?

Wow! So I got a few of the anomalies! Love that!

Thanks for the info on the Austrawhite mix. I couldn't remember why I thought it was half and half. but really, it will be 1/4 WL, 1/4 BA, and 1/2 Blue Marans. Gotcha!

Total numbers? Out of the 6 ten day old eggs that my broody sat on, one hatched (SBEL OE). Today, three of the seven in my Brinsea Mini hatched (Sizzle, Austrawhite, SBEL OE). I still have 3 Marans in there, but they look like duds, and one still looks viable, so I am waiting on that one a bit longer.

I love how the SBEL OEs came from the same mix, but look completely different! One is grey, and the other white. Great combo.

And yes, the sizzle is pretty awesome. I'm not gunna lie... when you all were talking about them, I could have cared less for the breed... but now that I have one... I actually really like it! :)

Thanks again for the eggs! I'll let you know what happens to the Marans egg.

Also, I just put all the three newly hatched chicks with the broody mama who has had one chick for 3 days. I hope she accepts them!

Ace-I hope she takes the chicks too! I have zero experience using broodies, my one attempt failed, so I have no idea how long they stay maternal and sweet enough to accept chicks. Hope it all works out, and that you have lots of girlies! Holler if you want more :D :D

Ace, in my experience, it's best to give broodies chicks within a day of the first babies hatching. I have had hens reject chicks that are further apart than that. Good luck!

Ugh. Not what I wanted to hear...haha. But ten points to ravenclaw for honesty! I don't really have another option... So I'll let ya all know how it goes. :fl

Me too Ace..sorry, have to agree with red..haven't had a real great experience with adding them later than when the ones she hatched did. In fact, it's usually during the same time..as..the babies are hatching, that I have been able to sneak other babies in.
Cute white babies. You should have some great egg layers there! And sounds like you will get a pretty Olive egg if it's a girl from the one. I'm waiting on my NN to lay..any day now..!! lol...she looks like a hen, she's red in the comb, she's a big girl, but I haven't even seen her check out the nest boxes yet..but I am hoping for a colored egg from her, then I have an EE that will be fun to see what color she will lay...she may go before the NN.
Anyway..if you decide to try adding those babies, I would watch quite a while after adding them. Good luck. Yes, let us know. Maybe she's a real lovey mama hen. :)

Extra Extra---
2 black FBCM chicks if anyone is interested, I am only keeping the blues. Ace, if your egg did not hatch do you want these? Anyone? They are five days old.

Also a few adorable smooth sizzle chicks, a white, blue and black. 5 days old also.... And a couple smooth sizzle showgirls that are two weeks older. Will be white or splash.

I put them in with her last night around 9. Checked at 10, and they were all fast asleep, so I felt good leaving them in.

This morning, I went out at 6 and they were all fast asleep. I went back out around 7:30 to check on them before I went to work, and one of the new babies came out from underneath to see what was going on... well, the mom cooed to it... when the baby wouldn't get under her, she gave it a soft little tap on the back, and then nudged it underneath her.

I took this as the OK that she would be fine as I went to work.

I'll check as soon as I get home. Hopefully I don't find dead chicks!

This all sounds like very good news to me!
