Utah!

The daylight is dwindling, do you have a light bulb on to extend the day hours a bit? Mine goes on at 6am-9am and 5pm-9 pm right now. Some don't like to use one and let them have a break....mine seem to do better with one but if they need a break they still take one, it is just a little shorter lol

I've gotta agree with Lisa - it's probably the waning daylight. My girls are all on strike, too. Several of them are moulting, though, so that doesn't help. You might try turning a light on in the coop for a couple of hours each day, then giving them a little time to adjust. I don't like to use a lamp unless it is needed for heat, just because I want my girlies to have a break.

Well darn, I was thinking I had another month before they slowed down. :( We didn't use a light last year, and not planning on it again this year. Even with the freezing temps. We didn't have any issues.

I just came back from setting up the Seramas for the fall show of the Utah Fancy Poultry Assn. My Gosh there are some pretty birds there. its well worth the drive to come and see. Its at the Legacy Events center at the davis county fairgrounds, Runs today from 9=5 and same tomorrow. Not sure what happened to RJ but I know he likes chicken shows Lisa perhaps you can call and tell him about the show. I won't be by a computer but Lisa Gary and Cynthia all have my phone number if anyone has any questions

Silly, I mostly had the heat lamp on for my RIR and Leghorn, neither one of which were particularly cold hardy. I may use it again this year, though, just because it can get pretty dang cold out here and mommy has a soft heart for the chickens......

Sundance, wish I didn't have work today. Have fun!

Ooooh, I hear the egg song! I hope that means my Wyandotte is laying. She always gets really chatty right before doing her thing, and she was talking at me this morning while I was feeding everyone :) Haha, kind of sad when you have one egg to look forward to, but oh well. At least it's one egg.

When do silkies typically start hatching in yall's experience? My five eggs will be on day 16 tomorrow (saturday). Soo nervous and excited Gahhhhh! lol Man I hope they hatch alright. The suspense is killing me lol.

to day Iluv, in my incubator some start at day 18 and some finish hatching on day 22. I actually have my incubator set to stop turning half way through day 17. But under my broodies they never start before day 20. It doesn't matter what size the egg is either. I do have 7 Serama eggs in my incubator right now and I'm kind of wondering when they will start. Cant wait!!!

Woo hoo, how fun. All these babies about to hatch :) I am so excited to. It hasent really sunk in till now. I am going to get really picture crazy im sure lol. My first time hatching babies, im so excited to see what I get :) I have them under my broody still, so I guess I can expect them probably around day 20 then? Good to know, thanks. It's going to be really hard not trying to steal a peek when I hear chirping, but I have read its not good cause it'll ruin the humidity just like in a bator so I will have to try to sit on my hands till they are finished. How long do you wait? Day 23 maybe? I wont be able to see if any need help this way, so im just going to cross my fingers everything goes well and they hatch alright. :)
