Utah!

I usually wait until they all hatch but i do reach under her and pull out the shells from the ones that's hatched. Sometimes i get lucky and feel a chick and pull it out to get a look but it has to be really fast and when you put it back under her make sure its actually under and not just next to her cause she will peck it on the head. She isn't trying to hurt the chick but she is upset and will peck anything that moves around her as long as she can still see you. I dint know if this is the case with others chickens that are handled all the time because mine are not. Mine do not like to be picked up or touched. But they will jump up on the work table when I'm trying to build something and inspect my work.

Oh ok, another good thing to know, thanks! lol. Luckily this hen is used to being handled. She lets me pick her up right off the eggs without a fight. She's never offered to peck at me once. She fluffs up but thats it. I hope she's a good mom. Im still trying to decide if I wanna leave these babies with her or take them and immediately replace it with more eggs lol. Im not sure if she'll except going from chicks to incubating but if she still has the hormone and I take the chicks quick enough then maybe she wont mind and wont know any different. I figure it would get the last few eggs a better chance of hatching as well if she does it. They are only a week apart so she wouldnt sit as long. Have you ever tried this?

My current mom sounds a lot like yours... Me personally... I would let her keep and raise the chicks. After being on the nest for that long, not only is it healthy, but also rewarding for her to raise her babies.

If you want to use my incubator to hatch out a small clutch, let me know.

Where do you live ? That would be great. What kind of bator you have? I only have the one LG with a fan. The temp fluctuates which is annoying. Havent gone under 97 or above 102 but its been the most consistant at 99-100. I have one egg that will be a singlet-ton (only one to develope out of 6 shipped eggs) thats due to hatch a week after this first batch does and then I am setting 9 more eggs tomorrow that i'll probably be lucky to get one maybe two from. So these last two batches cant be together because of lockdown and I wanna give them the best chance of making it which was why I thought of seeing if dixie would sit a lil longer and hatch them as well. But if you have a bator I can borrow that would work, thanks :) These are the last shipped eggs ive going to be doing and all these are whats's going to give me all the paints I want to start breeding my own and then i'll let all my broodies hatch future eggs, and if I get a good enough lil buisness going with it, then ill buy a more reliable incubator then :)

I was also curious how did it go when you tried to give your older/younger chicks to the mom with other chicks? Just wondering if I might be able to slip the other two batches in with these chicks when they hatch? If dixie will except them.. These chicks she is hatching now will be about two weeks older then the very last batch.

I'm in wellsville. The souh end of cache valley. I have a reliable brinsea mini. Cann automatically turn 7 large fowl eggs... But could probably fit 10 bantam eggs.
