Utah!

45 bucks? Yes, I just use those dog looking bowls, but you can find them in the chicken isle. :)

yup it was $45 at Cal Ranch. Now I need to find the dang receipt. They told me I can bring it back if I want too, but now looking at it, I think I might just want to add water to the heated dog bowl, and its up on the cinder blocks, hopefully it will stay way from the straw. But its at least 6 inches above the ground. And I have bricks around it for them to stand on for a boost to the water.

Ooo, cinder blocks! I need a couple of those. Will have to watch out for some. Just two. Only need two..well, maybe three.

I love my cinder blocks, I have the food up on cinder blocks too, they don't make a mess with scratching around with it either, and I don't know if mice can get into it. We do feed the wild birds, there is always birds flying around in there when I go in. They actually fit through the chicken wire vents. But oh well.

Do you guys that are using the electric dog water bowls, I just got one from Cal Ranch, but it states not to use an extension cord. Well I need to use an extension cord, so now what? Do you use them with an extension cord?

I have my light come on at 4:30 pm and stay on until 10:00 pm. They always seem to find their spot and are usually asleep by 8:30 pm. I use to have it come on in the morning a couple hours before sunrise but all this done was get the rooster crowing and then everyone would go outside and huddle together in the cold morning air trying to stay warm. I lost a couple bantys two years ago because the LF girls would kick them out in the morning in the cold.

I do! Never a prob. Also, be sure if the connection is anywhere there might be moisture to wrap the connection up tight with waterproof electrical or duct tape, lots of layers. They have things called cord connecters that cover too,but tape works fine. If it makes you nervous it might get buried in snow and short out, when the snow melts you can put something over it like a bucket with a brick on top.

I purchased this one on sale a couple months back for $12 (it was on sale) and I'm using it for my chickens, and it works great! holds 1.5 gallons. it only turns on when it gets below a certain degrees so it doesn't freeze, but doesn't use electricity when not needed (basically it's own built in thermo cube). I bought it originally for my cat, but its so huge, and I needed something for my chickens, I ended up just putting it in their run. You can't tell it's on, or heating, but you know it's doing what it needs to when you go out on a freezing morning, and their water isn't ice. Also, as I understand it, it doesn't heat up if there isn't anything in it.... (I guess it can tell by weight maybe?)

Here is the one I have in my pens....love it. They do go on sale randomly, I think the lowest I have seen is $16...they have them at IFA too. I like the shape, it doesn't tip over.

Hmmm...link would not work, so here is a pic.
