Utah!

These can go either way. I personally prefer the silkie, but the gal I got the sizzles from had some beauties. So, I got them for the HAL..and like she said when I sent some photos, we'll see which ones will frizzle/sizzle for you. You never know. Iluv, of course, you like my two favorites. Well, actually, I don't usually like the partridge color..but that baby has the most full muff! Just can't see it so well in the photos. High vault too! Just can't see it.
Oh of course, isent that how it works? Lol I just love those high high vaults and that silvery partridge is gonna look so cute. That blacks vault is insane. Love them :)

I learned how to wing sex baby chicks, i don't know if it works on silkies I haven't tried but you open their wings up and pullets wing are bigger and more filled out then the roosters, you sex them this way at 3 days old.

you can you tube it "wing sexing baby chicks."

I feel awful. My 5 little babies died! :( i thought that they were old enough to produce their own heat, cause they were about 12 weeks old, fully feathered, and doing awesome. But a few days ago when it got int the low single digits, they didn't make it. I don't think I will hatch winter babies again. Ugh.

So sorry! I worried about that..mine were almost 2 weeks old, but put them in a hutch, that I have a tarp I can pull down over it, with a heat lamp inside. So far so good. This thing holds heat, smaller than the one I tried first. I have a smaller coop, with a heat lamp, I kept watching them during the day, they were just hudeled right under the lamp, so that didn't work, moved them to the hutch until they get more feathered out. 12 weeks? I hope they can go into the bigger coop at twelve weeks with a heat lamp..did you have a heat lamp?

Ace, I am so sorry to hear this! Were these the ones you hatched from me?

I was worried about my silkies/SG that cold night with all the wind. I went out a few times that night to check on them, they were huddled under an 85 watt spotlight, the coop was pretty frozen, but they survived thank goodness. I really thought I might lose some of them..Mine were about three weeks older than yours, maybe four. The silkie rooster is really good to sit in the middle of them and they snuggle with him, I think that really helped. Good Boy he is. So do you have any roosters to go now? I have been meaning to call you to see if you needed to send any to that friend of mine. It sounds like they may have been in your young batch you lost. Again, how horrible and sad, please let me know if you want more eggs for hatching you know you can always have some! :hugs

Ace, very sorry to hear about your babies. That's why I don't do babies in winter. I just know somehow I'd lose them :(

Cynthia, I think that partridge baby is my favorite. Pretty baby!

One of my hens disappeared several days ago, and I think I may have figured out why. This morning in the wee hours, I heard our owl hooting outside :/ .......... I forgot we had one here. Well, everyone's gotta eat, as unfortunate as it is. I just hope the owl doesn't take another of my birds.

Thanks Cynthia. I do hope that she comes home. She was starting to get chatty, and I love chatty hens. Plus, she had bloomers :) We will see what happens, I guess. The rooster that was with her seems depressed, poor thing.

I'm glad the owls don't come out until dusk. A couple weeks ago I went out to lock up the coop and heard an owl, looked up to see the owl perched on the peek of my roof. Then heard another hoot, then looked to see a second owl on the neighbors roof. Definitely had to count the chickens that night.

Sorry you lost one.
