Anybody ever ordered from Chase Hatchery? They have a couple ads on KSL right now and are in Taylorsville.
Yes, Chase Hatchery has gotten better. They started out pretty gross and smelly all the time, and overly crowded and I felt some of my silkie chicks were dying because of sickness from there. To this day, I cannot confirm if that was actually because of them, or my lack of experience with chicks. I got a few more from them several months later when I had a bit more practice and I didnt have any issues, so it can be a risk, but it seems they have lowered their prices some to which is nice, and I actually like the quality of their silkies. They are better then the ifa stores. I have a couple that look pretty show quality to me that I got from there. I think they are worth trying.

I heard they get their silkies from Cackle, Cackle has decent birds I think :D

Kristenaty, she was selling chicks out of her garage last year, I emailed her this weekend to ask if they have their own birds, she responded, it sounded like she is still getting eggs from local farmers and ordering chicks in but said they are working on getting more property to do it differently.

Here was Kris' answer:

Hello Lisa,

We are a lot stricter on where we are getting our eggs from for hatching, we've got several poultry farmers so we are able to expand the breeds that we are hatching ourselves. There are some specialty breeds we are still getting through another hatchery. Last year we definitely learned a lot, that was the first year we dealt with that much chicks so we do have our processes more streamlined and are stricter on cleanliness. We are actually acquiring some land less than a mile where I'm at now that we'll be able to add some buildings to expand to. I'll be moving with the chicks of course because they require full time care so I think it will always kind of be in my garage or a large building on my property. Right now it will be in my garage until we get that property but the set up is a lot nicer and more manageable.

Let me know if there's any other questions I can answer for you.

Thank You!
Kris

Just incase anyone has one.. I am on the lookout for a great quality black silkie roo, or black with silver leakage. Or a Paint roo :) If anyone has one they need to give up, give me a holler and i'll take him off your hands :) I am hoping to start breeding a couple of my paints this spring, but my roo's are too young to breed so I am looking for one that will be ready.

Iluv--I sold a juvie in August that turned out soooo beautiful, the buyer wanted a girl but it turned out male...he is so sweet she has hung on to him...but now the crowing is getting on nerves in her neighborhood, I will see if I can get ahold of her and find out if she will pass him along if you are interested....he would be about 6 months old. IT is from the roo "Yoshi" I got from Cynthia, and he is beautiful black with a silver necklace and huge poofy feet. Looks to be very SQ, I know the toes were perfect too.

There was a story on KSL about a duck with bird flu found in Davis County. Do I need to do anything different with my birds because of it? I'm in Salt Lake.
