Hi Utah Folks!


We're fairly new here. My wife and I live in Taylorsville (about 10 miles south of Salt Lake City) on nearly half an acre and have 18 buff orpingtons. It's funny but Taylorsville allows for some livestock!


I'd like to pick up some other types of chickens. I'm in the market for Blue and Black Orpington's, a Peacock (my wife wont let me for some reason, so scratch that!), Mille Fleur dUccle Bantams, Tolbunt Polish, a few silkies, stanrard or bantam Sumatra and an ostritch (wife says no to that, too!) So if you carry any of those, or any similar - please send me a message!


Also if you're looking to get a few free buff orpington roo's, we have a few we're trying to find homes for. /img/smilies/smile.png Very good natured and about 8 weeks old now.

Hello All,



I received a phone call today from Dr. Scott Leibsle at the Dept of Agriculture, there has been a confirmed case of H5/H7 Avian Influenza (bird Flu) in Idaho. The bird the sample was taken from was a duck. The press release should come out this weekend. The Dept of Agriculture in all affected western states are putting together a plan of action to combat the spreading disease. I was assured they would keep all NPIP certified farms in the loop. As more information is available it will be passed onto the club members and other idaho bird lovers.



Dr Leibsle did say the primary source is waterfowl. It does take direct contact for the disease to spread. This means food, water, and any dirt that may be contaminated by feces.... If you live in a direct flight path of waterfowl you, may want to keep your birds in the coop...

I;m in Taylorsville to when I'm home. I winter in Arizona but will be home in April. There are breeders in the Utah fancy poultry assn that breed some of them. Look up the club online.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this chick. Can't wait to see how she turns out. I want chicks from her haha! My friend did return my call today, she has someone else that has spoken for her roo if/when she decides to part with him, sorry Hopefully one will turn up soon for you.

Oh darn! I guess the search continues. Thanks for trying. I really like this chick to. I think she's going to turn out gorgeous! She has perfect feet/toes to with lots of fluff. Crest is already getting huge, and showing a good beard. And I just love her coloring!. I will take more pics of her for sure every few weeks as she ages. As it gets warmer i'll try to take some of her outside with the natural lighting so you can see her true colors. She's soo pretty!

I finally got it up and running!!! First set of quail eggs went in Tuesday night. setting the next group Sunday night and every 5 days after for each group. This way i have quail maturing every week for butchering. At fifteen days the first batch will be removed from the incubator and set in a hatcher box. (I'm still building it but its mostly just cutting the fiberglass pieces to size and fitting them to the knotty alder box that is the outside of the hatcher box. I'm using a 12 volt dc Incukit from Incubator warehouse to regulate the temp in the hatcher. I will be adding a second shelf for another turner next week for chicken eggs. I made it big enough to hold 4 turning racks just in case i ever have the need to hatch that many eggs but that would be just crazy....right...?
