Utah!

I want to thank Lisa, for watching out for me, before I knew that I needed watching out for! I had no idea you were so kind as to protect me, and in turn yourself. Thank you. Cynthia, thank you for the kind words on Henny Penny, I think you were hard at work on the Easter hatch a long when I posted her the first time. This bio-security thing is a silent danger, I want to thank the Sages here for sharing their thoughts and practices regarding the issue. You guys are the best, and I bow in your general directions…

Enjoyed the much needed rain from the evening past, the lawn was much in need of the moisture. Which perhaps has brought a few worms to the surface, and thus into the careful gaze of my birds. Time to walk down to the coops and let them out for the day.

Enjoy your weekend,

RJ

Haha, I distinctly remember saying to my DH that you were newer on BYC and would probably think we were nuts so just "spray 'em and get out and don't say anything". (Eye roll from him.... Lol! ) Then spraying again when getting in the car....we use rubber floormats too and spray them pretty frequently or clean them every so often with hot soapy water. Can't hurt!

I have chicks hatching nearly two days early this morning, I thought they were due late Sunday, but some big old fat Marans babies are waddling around in there already. I hope my temps were not too warm this time.

Off to buy more chick feed, (in between soccer games :D) whoa we are going through it this year!

I saw some of those huge earthworms last night when I went out to the coop in the dark. Have to take a couple of stubborn pullets off of the edge of the nest boxes, or they make a mess! Anyway, it's been sprinkling the last couple of days here, those worms are big. Good fishin worms. :)

A big thank you for everyone's input! I'm so happy to hear that so many of you know Christina! I just put in my order

Red- how is your little one that was having a hard time walking?

There must be something in the air today. Just like Lisa, I have early hatchers this morning. My son burst through the door after school yesterday in an excited panic shouting that two of the eggs had pipped. When i turned around I saw that he had brought the bator home with him....
After a slight (maybe major) panic on my part, we got it settled back in its place on the kitchen counter and crossed our fingers that the voyage home hadn't caused any damage.

This morning I woke up to the sweetest little black naked neck popping out of her shell.

within an hour another little fluffy butt was out. Another little naked neck! A very light little chipmunk. I can't wait until she fluffs up! Everyone else has pipped and one more is starting to zip as I type this. Dizzy- thanks again so much for the eggs! I feel so bad that they didn't wait until Monday morning so the kiddos could watch! I did record the little chipmunk zipping and popping! Oh my, I love this so much! I'll get pics up shortly.

On a side note... I was picking up chick feed yesterday, when four little cochin babies may or may not have jumped into my cart and followed me home. I blame chicken math. It was totally out of my control!

Also, I want to thank everyone for the advice on keeping my girls safe! I still feel like such a newbie, having only gotten my girls last year, and I never would have thought of keeping a separate pair of shoes by the back door or spray in my car. Brilliant! Thanks again!

RJ- I love reading your posts! They are always so full of kind words and so well written. You have a gift with words!

Abko, she is doing better! She's standing on her own and trying to walk as well as eating on her own. I'm thinking she is a pullet, too. Yay!

And how dare those naughty chickies jump in your cart! Dang hitchhikers ;)

They are about 5 weeks old and I am asking $25.00 They are a pullets for sure as the cuckoo Marans are able to tell at hatch the sex
okay.... I'm not certain what I'm doing, so don't hold onto them for me :) (trying to decide between a couple of ducks, or a couple more chicks...) Only ones I may be very tempted with, would be if someone had a couple super cute EE pullets that are pretty young ;)

Abkoldewyn- I'm so excited for you and your son! You set eggs from my sweetest hens :) Do you know which hen produced the little chipmunk baby?

How fun..sounds like you have caught the bug! The hatching bug. The baby chickies bug. I think we all know, all too well, how good those chicks are at jumping into carts when we go for, just the feed. Yep. :) That's where I like to get my layers. Once in a while, the batnams will catch my eye if they aren't serama or other clean legged babies. I bought two bantam cochin this yr. At the end of March. One turned out to be a frizzle! Darling, but decided to let that one go, and kept the pure white one. Oh..my..goodness! She's a doll! Those legs and feet are sooo feathered, and she is going to be small. Can't wait to see her fill out. Going to be very pretty.

Another batch of paint silkies due to hatch tomorrow and I am so excited & nervous because I am trying a different lockdown technique this try. Wish me luck, i hope I get a bunch this time :)
