Wait, you guys are confusing me... I'm not LDS and am a wine drinker (imported my collection with us when we moved here from Germany) but I thought Mormons were not allowed to drink wine? If so, I need to find some that do! I'm a social drinker and haven't found anyone to share a bottle with yet! We have an apple tree in our backyard and I've been wanting to try my hand at Apple wine this fall. :)

Sorry about the confusion ha ha LDS people aren't supposed to drink wine. I make wine, because it is one of the steps to making vinegar. :) I was joking about how funny it would be if I started selling my wines, because I am LDS. I've never tasted them, so they may not even be that good... ;) I'd love to have a social sometime, though. I grew up around social drinkers, so I am not offended by those who do imbibe.

Hehehe....all this talk of munching sprouts reminds me of elementary school. I was the only kid that loaded up on the alfalfa sprouts from the salad bar, which everyone else thought was gross, but whatever. I liked them :)

EEEEEE I forgot for a minute that you had 3 ducks.  I remember reading about your tragedy about a month ago.  I wish I had read it a day before.  We had just sent 4 ducks to freezer camp and I remember wishing I could have sent one or two of the boys to you.  They were so very sweet and beautiful and  though full grown a couple of them were really  too small.  I still feel bad about that.  How are your girl & new friends coming along now?  are they taking treats from you yet?  I had a kitten once that got into some cooked chicken bones and got one stuck in her throat. Every so often she would choke, stop breathing & pass out my husband gave her CPR & revived her about 5 times over a few days, but not the 6th. Sorry it didnt work with your boy.  You are amazing to have thought of it & tried it.
Im quite worried about the ducks comfort in the fluctuating temperatures in Utah.  They seem to dash for shade when its in the high 60's, what is it going to do to them when it reaches 100's?  hopefully their palace will be done by then.  its quite shaded & the water should help.  Then I get to worry about sub temps for the winter.  Im so glad we had a mild winter.  I started ducks early in the year but freezing was not a real problem this year. I just worry. Im hoping some ppl from here will chime in with wonderful advice for this region.
Will keep an eye out for orange mint.  It is not one I have.  but if you ever want catmint....well there we got ya covered LOL It really loves where it is planted.  I have to dig out a ton of it. I have never grown rockcress.  good for ducks?  LOL Im changing so much of my garden for these guys.  OUt with the Ivy & sweet peas, in with the leafy greens & berries. My Iris are staying though.  I will just have to try to keep them away from it.

The duckies are doing splendidly :) I did get two of them to take treats from my hand once, but I'm still working with them. My husband is working with Jill, my little female. We are thinking now that she may be a mallard and not a Rouen because she's so small and wild. And don't worry about te spare ducks - Jill is very happy with present company, so it all worked out :)

I would love some catmint! :) I don't know if ducks will eat rockcress, but it's a succulent so it's edible to humans. I'd be more than happy to bring you some if we trade. I just picked up a pineapple mint start.....naughty me.....It seems that mints are my weakness right now.

I don't actually drink the wine, because I'm Mormon. ;) The vinegar is amazing, though. ... Don't worry. My bishop knows my habits. -.- ha ha ha ha

I'm petrified about getting beer for use as snail bait and having to explain it to my bishop, hahaha.

Buy it, Red! :) The church is on your honor, and you're not doing anything wrong. The only reason my bishop even knows about my wine habits is because we are friends. Other than that, there is no reason he really needs to know. Ha ha Jesus knows I'm not drinking it.

There are actually more folks around you that are not LDS than you think...and guess what? I'm with gus as I'm sure many are, LDS people would love to socialize with you. They will bring their soda. :) If I was closer, I'd be right there when you have that BBQ...oh wait, I didn't read BBQ did I?

I grew up with Spencer W. Kimball who always said stuff about avoiding the appearance of evil. This story about him going to a restaurant and having them remove the coffee cups. I dont really remember the whole thing. Im sure I could find it in my chest LOL. I was very young. But even then I could see both sides of that coin. Is good to set an example on one hand, but if I have Orange juice in my coffee cup or beer for my snails, who is who to judge. Anyway that is a big philosophical question we all must answer for ourselves. words of wisdom vs scripture and all that.
My ducks eat snails. I hand pick them out of the areas they cant get to & give them up. They LOVE em. I even did some gardening for my neighbour and brought them back a to go meal. I have heard of beer drinkin wine stealin' ducks so im very careful.

To protect my glass.

The reason my bishop knows my business is because he is my cousins husband. Cant hide from that. LOL If we were perfect we wouldn't need religion at all.

REDIII Glad the flock is coming along. My heart just went out to ya on that one. I dont get up to Tooele very often but if your down here I would love to do that trade any day. I've got to get that cat mint to a manageable size. Ill pm you my #. PS: If you want me to go buy you some beer let me know & I'll have it ready for ya in a plain paper bag LOL ;-)

Ipickupick: I apologize for the confusion. I just think people will read my mind and "get" my humor. So many of us in Utah were just born into the religion. Im mormon, not perfect and dont practice perfectly. I strive to be a good person regardless of the definition of perfection.
In short "hot drinks" are against the "word of wisdom" a guideline for the physical and spiritual health of LDS (Mormon) All alcohol products are lumped into the forbidden zone. Except things like cough medicine, mouth wash and such. It confuses me. Im not offended by people that dont drink, or people that do. All things in moderation. Im up for a social ;-)

Cynthia those are some of the cutest birds ever!
Bitsyhorse---im on the edge of my seat! cant wait to see babies!

You all are so hard to keep up with!

OR you could make hard cider! Lol!

This made me think of my friend, cute story. I have an LDS friend who LOVES the smell of rum, and loves baked goodies with rum in them. Of course the alcohol cooks out so it is just the rum flavor that is left. She was also petrified of going to the liquor store so I would get the rum, then she would buy it a cup at a time from me. It was pretty funny. She had to buy it a cup or so at a time and transport it in a mason jar, so she was not carrying the actual bottle with the label, she said to avoid the appearance of evil. She is the relief society president of her ward, and this is the naughtiest thing she has probably ever done, so it kind of cracks me up how worried she gets she will "get caught" with this rum in her kitchen lol! I get it, totally, and understand her worry about her peers. But I get a real kick out of this, she is great! WE have a lot of fun joking around about it. So if you ever want me to bring mason jars of beer to you for your snails, I will do it in a heartbeat. I get it :D
