I do get snails in my cabbages I will have to try spraying them with beer. Is that what you do? or do you put it in the dirt around them?

put out a pie plate that is sunk into the ground like a swimming pool and fill with beer, they will all go in there and drink and drown :) cheap beer works or what i do is fill with beer that warmed up too much if slow to drink it :)

I'm on pip #3! This is better than christmas! Why didn't you all tell me this sooner?!?! Lol! I think my second pip is going to beat the first pip out... first one hasn't zipped at all (green egg)... second one is working on it (light brown egg), and third just started (Dark brown)

I used to use yogurt cups sunk into the ground full of beer, they could crawl in easily but they no come out. I did have some success with that. but the minute it rains or the sprinklers come on your trap is shot, & must be re-done. So then I left an inch above ground and cut out "doorways" for them to go in and fall in and covered them with pot pie tins to help keep the water out. Still they got watered out. It does work but my yard started getting pretty trashy looking and I gave up on it. I hand picked and put them in a bucket of bleach water. that worked but was a lot of work.

That is THE reason I was able to talk my sweetie into ducks. Snail eaters. That is why I got some Rouens. Good little foragers!

If you have a specific plant that you want to protect I have also found success by surrounding them with copper pipes or more logically copper tape set into the ground a bit.
I have also used crushed up egg shells in a circle around a particular plant. While this does work really well to keep the slugs & snails out of that plant, for a time, it also provides all the calcium into the dirt that baby snails need so badly to grow that hard shell and the wood lice (pill bugs, rolly polly, potato bug, whatever you call them in your neck of the woods) also thrive where calcium is provided. so.....take the good with the bad. LOL get a duck.

Also if you are trying to get rid of snails, do not leave empty snail shells or squashed shells in your yard, throw them out in the trash. the Calcium in them is just what the next generation needs to grow big & strong!

I have spent so many hours of research trying to know my enemy (snails) so I can annihilate him.

beer dosnt make chickens mean. Thats tequilla. ROFLOL

It *is* better than Christmas! Some of the babes take their merry time, other just seem to be in a hurry. So glad you're enjoying yourself!

I have kept myself from peaking in at my broody for the rest of the day... I was so hoping for more pictures from everyone to tide me over until the morning. Ha ha

If anybody needs egg cartons, please let me know. I have tons of extras, my little daycare kids bring them to me and I need to rehome some to make room in my garage, there are plenty for all.
Mostly dozen cartons, a few extra 18 cartons. Would love to share!

Now if only I had snails :/ lol! I think my chickens obliterated them when I moved out here a year ago. They will even fight over the empty shells if they find them. I have a friend in West Valley who is having a bad snail problem and I wish I could lend her my ducks. They'd probably have a hey day!

Lisa, wish I was closer to you! Between my turkeys and my chickens, I've been getting a lot of eggs (five a day is a lot to me) I've been trying to incorporate eggs into more of our meals to lighten the load.

So... I went to bed at 12:30 thinking "I'll wake up to baby chicks" well... I woke up at 6....and got it in my head that I had baby chick's waiting for me.... lol! (This is a full hour earlier than when I normally get up for a school day...) well... there was no progress on any of the eggs from where I left them last night. However...I do have a 4th pip! Yay!
So, I guess chicks have to sleep too..... lol

but now I'm awake.... and can't go back to sleep...guess I'll just sit and "watch the pot boil..."
