Utah!

Yep I like growing and harvesting my own food. I cringe at all of the additives in store bought food. I will have to try that with the bacon :) Bacon is always good. DH wants to go on one of those management hog hunts and I am A-OK with that!
there is a documentary you might like called "food inc" its on youtube. i highly recommend it. yeah i am a big bacon fan lol. but year a slice of bacon around dove breast is good stuff. yeah as bad as those wild pigs can be there are some good sides for sure. they found some by the great salt lake in the past i know. its only a matter of time before the population takes off. when they do take off i will be hunting them for sure. in texas they pay people to hunt them. they actually feed the homeless on donated hog. its a easy way to fill the freezer that is for sure lol.

iPick..here you go..she is the one on the left..not sure why camera shot so bright! The other chick also came from Buddy, our twins. :) I hatched Buddy out myself, and yes, he did look a lot like your little yellow chipmunk. Interesting how much they can change ... those EE's. The mama to this one with blue is from a Brown sex link, not a red, a brown, and yes, there is a difference. :) The other one is also from Buddy, didn't catch her mom in the photos, but she looks to have some Welsummer in her, she came from a beautiful green egg..the mama, then laid a brown ..which this dark one came from. Now, with Buddy's genes, and mama's, hoping for an OE from her. Will probably get a blue egg from the light one. She looked like your yellow baby too when hatched. The mom... The baby again, she has the puffiest cheeks! Buddy did too. These two are joined at the hip. :D Maybe I'll go out later and get better ones, these make her look bright orange, she's more of a buff.
Wow, too funny. She looks like my mystery bird that was supposed to be a wheaten Ameraucana cockerel from Michelle in Idaho. LOL. Mine definitely isn't a wheaten Ameraucana but he's a mystery chick to Idaho Michelle, too. We thought maybe he was one of her golden olive Eggers but she said he doesn't look right for them either. Now I'm not even 100% sure he's a boy. Silly chicken! I'll have to get a picture of him. :)

Went to the Eastern Idaho State Fair in Blackfoot today. The fair part is stupendous… the chicken part not so much. Less that the Cache County and perhaps a little more that the Franklin County fair. A young showgirl was the only bird that caught the DW's fancy. No OEGB's to speak of, but they do have nice cages and poultry barn. The horse barn was very cool with all of the draft horses and such. I was surprised to find out that it is quite a bit bigger than the Utah State fair, which opens toward the end of this week. Always looking for a fine bird to view.

I suppose I'll go to the Utah State fair and hopefully to the big Utah show and action in Farmington, sometime in early mid October. I hope to source some additions there, if not I suppose I'll have to buy shipped bird from the eastern parts of the country. I can not tell if I am on the leading cusp of a new trend, or so late in on the previous one so as to have missed it completely. Reminds me of spray painting in the wind… somehow.

Hope all are having a good, safe holiday,

RJ

One of my SDW 'Silver Penney' hens and her brood of eight. A cute a thing as one will ever see.

I am looking to add to my flock, I would love some blue, green or very dark brown egg layers. Does anyone know who may still be selling in UT?

I won't be showing chickens at the state fair because I don't like the way they are taken care of. by management. I'm showing my horse instead. I will be showin at the Utah fancy pou;try assn show in Oct. All the shows are down in size due to the fear of bird flu

I'm really open to any of those options, I probably want 4 or so. I will need to keep them separate for a bit, so as long as ALL are either chicks/pullets/hens I don't care. If it's a hen though, it should be pretty new to laying.
