Beautiful Roo RJ! Don't know about the feathers, I have not had that happen. I won't lie, it makes me giggle a little how worried you sound, pretty cute how you are fretting about his 'do. I sure hope it goes back like it should I get such a kick out of your posts, I look forward to them, I'm glad you've been on here more lately.

I believe so , Husband is Joel. They have orps at the fair every year, they are HUGE. He is a member of the Utah Fancy Poultry Association as well. Good folks. They got some orps from me a couple years back that I hatched from pawtraitart's birds then made a run over there to her place to get some more to add to their breeding program so I know the bloodlines are nice. Orps-wise anyway!

Good Morning to all!

Hope your chickens have dry toes this morning. Wow, a lot of rain here so far! My run is becoming nice and boggy/wet, I was just reflecting on how much fun winters are. Just around the corner.....no fun chicken keeping in the wet and cold but our love for them keeps us going right? Hope my molting gets wrapped up soon I have some very bald birds right now and I need to get the run raked out haha

We mostly got wind here, but this morning we had someone's curious little kitty out there checking out the flock. It was pretty funny. She was small enough that I thought she was a kitten, but with the fuss everyone made you'd think there was a mountain lion! I went out a few minutes later and everyone had put themselves back in the run (we let them out to stretch) like, "Okay! We'll be good! Just don't let the cat get us!"

Went to the state fair last night. Unfortunately, no chickens, except the bbq'd kind. It looked like the show chickens had all been taken home. Did eat some good food though...

We didn't make it over to see the horses, but did see some nice looking steers (I guess, definitely weren't cows). I never knew cattle could look that impressive.

Isn't there a poultry show coming up in October? I have to get my chicken fix in somehow.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! So good to see how active this thread is. We got some rain here in Provo but the girls seemed to have stayed fairly dry. It did show me where I need to work on the roof of our A frame coop, there is a bit of leaking going on. We bought it used from a lady in Orem and so far it's been a good, inexpensive way to get into chickens, but now I find myself online looking at nicer, walk in coops for the spring. The husband and I found a wonderful walk in dutch style coop, well built and wired for electricity that we were ready to put some serious money down for, but alas, the company is in NC and the shipping was almost as much as the coop! Any well known locals who can custom build a coop?

Hoping to make it to the state fair tomorrow afternoon if the weather holds out. Sounds like we missed the show chickens though. Darn!

Yes... Preparing for winter... I expect KSL to be picking up as chickeners thin their flocks.

As I mentioned earlier about a universal balance, I had to post the good things happening in my flock!
Here are some OE chicks I hatched from Lisa. The black and grey are from he frizzle collection, and the off-white and striped are from SBELS. For some reason the 2 wheatens didn't hatch... (One was clear and the other quit during lockdown). I also built a permanent brooder in my shed!

So I haven't posted a photograph of my new prize winning OEGB SDW Rooster… and in order to correct this, here goes. We washed him this a.m. and I suppose we did not get to him quick enough to dry.

I am not sure if the curl, twist or sizzle will straighten out with the humidly, or if the DW will have to iron each and every feather. What do you guys do when your wash & rinse goes wrong?

I am more than a little distraught over this, hoping the crew can help me with tips and tricks to save face with this little twisted mess I got going on.

Hello crew, I sometimes work out front in the trenches so to speak, and having a farming background I will sometimes speak regarding feeds and feeding. I don't know that I am so bad… as a civilian, but I soon bumped into Chris09 and he is a champ and the real deal with such things. Should you have a technical question regarding feeds and the birds use of that feed, he is the man to ask. I find him to be very good. I was looking through some of his older posts this a.m. in the rain and bumped into this thread, I would like to share it with the Utah group as a resource and basic learning tool. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=343605

Now on a more serious note, my poor OEGB SDW that cleaned up so oddly yesterday… we were able to save him. The DW, being I was fit to be tied, called her magician/beautician and was able to run to town and get us a bottle of potion/release stuff. She called it 'Product' but that does not ring a bell in my tower. Anyway we applied the 'Product' to the affected bird in the quantities called for on the table/spell and with a application of said 'product' and a short enchantion of some words I did not catch, nor understand. Anyway when said bird was removed from the caldron/wash tub and thusly dried again, his feathers returned to their former glory. I thought the DW would have to iron them back straight and I did not like the thoughts of that, poor bird. I want to thank those whom offered moral support and even offered to take the bird off my hands. I think I have answered the onslaught of PM's sent to me in the last twenty-four hours, thanks to everyone for the concern.
