Utah!

Aww. I have plenty of broodies, but I miss my Nora. She is one of the chickens that disappeared after I brought them out here. I've lost Nora, Robbie, Little Red, Reika, Sky, Goldie, several juveniles......

I have always loved Magpies. I know Im in the minority. They are so smart and pretty. They alert me to snakes in my yard and harass them. I don't mind snakes, I just don't like surprises. If they wore a bell or something that would be great. Not fond of the rattle some of them sport, but I haven't had those in my yard...that I know of. The Magpies haven't harassed my ducks that I have noticed. This spring I did have many more than usual in the yard. I think they were curious about the grounded fowl and figured it was a safe place to be. They also enjoyed the many water buckets and free food scraps. Of course that meant I had to change the water very frequently. They flew away if the ducklings got close to them. They did find and assault the bag of meal worms I keep in the sun room. I'm still finding pieces of dried worms around the hot tub. Smart little buggars. That said, if I saw one vexing my babies, love would be lost immediately. I love my little waddlers so much more than I could have guessed I would.
I love da chickens too. You all make me want to get my own flock so much. I want to build a coop and start a flock in the spring. But right now, I am so super spoiled with the ducks ;-)

Hi everyone! I didn't even know there was this group here :) Any duck lovers here? I have 6 lovely ducks in the South end of the Valley. We have so many chickens in our neighborhood, but no ducks except mine! I would love to add a couple of chickens some day, but right now we have more duck eggs than we can eat. I just checked this morning, and I have a stockpile of 9 dozen in my fridge right now! Here is my little duck family -

I believe we have some duck owners around. What do you do with the duck eggs? Do you eat them just like chicken eggs?

Yep, we eat them just like you would chicken eggs. My ducks are very productive, they each lay around 300-350 eggs a year. In the last 3 days, we have gotten 14 eggs from 4 ducks, someone is laying two a day :)

Welcome jducour! You have such lovely feather babies :) I have one hen and two drakes - my mallard hen calls all the shots and is a total bum. I've yet to get a single egg from her and she hatched in early March, I think. Boooo. Looks like you have some runners, there? I know I see WH and a blue. So pretty!

I believe LadyIsadora is also a duck keeper. perhaps she'll sneak in and say hello?
