Utah!

Awful you both have had to suffer because of this awful disease :( Cynthia I am glad to hear he is doing ok. He is lucky you were his mom!

So I have this GSL, she lays the huge egg every day, and the last I egg I had gotten was Tuesday. No egg Wed, Thurs I went out, no egg...I noticed she was in the corner of the run acting like she was pushing to lay an egg, which I thought was odd because she always uses the nest. Watched her for an hour off and on, she kind of went about her day. No egg still Friday...Saturday morning we went out to have coffee/watch chickens in the morning and she was doing it again, walking around real slow with her bum down to the ground, and I could see an egg when she would push, then it would go back in. I thought, great, another egg bound chicken...she was hanging out last night with her wings dropped looking pretty pale. I was sure that was it and she would not make it. Went out this morning, she was still looking pretty bad. About an hour later my son went out to get eggs, and brought in this egg---it is absolutely hers I only have two tan eggers and the other is laying fine. WHOA!!!!! No wonder it took so long to lay, She looked quite perky this afternoon, poor thing I don't know how she was able to pass this.

Weird thing is....only one yolk! A very big fat yolk. Poor girl! I have had some huge eggs, and even a triple yolker that was really long and narrow...but this one takes the cake so far. (width wise)

OUCH~

Oh my wordy! It's wrinkled too because it's so large. I'm glad she passed it, yes, could have been egg bound. Man I bet she feels soooo much better.

wow, I bet she would have benefited from a soak in a tub of warm water to help her lay it....you can also use a gloved finger with olive oil to lube her up to help if it happens again.

I have a pipped egg..on day 19. Heard it chirping this morning, thought no way! DH was in the doorway when it did it, says, I heard it. Then it pipped later in the morning. Still no change in the pip, but may have a chick tomorrow. Early bird. For a change!

These are frizzle/silkie. The dad is a blue frizzle silkie, so pretty..and the moms are from my silkies They should be pretty cute.

Sorry to go off topic but if any of you guys find yourself in North Logan for the Pumpkin walk, and it is after dusk, swing by my house and check out my carving display! 1520 East 1780 North, (Highland Drive). You access it from 1600 east.
I guarantee it is worth the look!

I've been drowning in school and just stopped by to catch up. What time do you light them at each night? Since you're only a couple blocks over, I will definitely drop by for a look. :)

cynthia i am so glad your son is doing so well! that would be so challenging for him and for you i am sure.

red i am so sorry you lost another bird :( fox maybe?

wow lisa that is one big egg! poor girl!

Oh my goodness..I'm so sorry!     :hugs    Yes, it was the number one birth defect back then.  One baby an hr. born with it.  That had to be so hard.  I never had a sonogram so I didn't even know I was having a baby with a problem.  Just had him whisked off to surgery.

I'm so sorry to hear that. :( My husband has spina bifida occulta. Lucky for him, he didn't have an issues with it until later in life. He's gotten various diagnosis's over the years from the military but the VA hospital confirmed last month that that's what it is. It causes him spells of pretty horrendous pain but thankfully nothing more. I'm so sorry to read that one of you lost your baby to it and that it's been such a rough journey for your family, Cynthia.
