Utah!

Lisa has a new BADGE! :woot

Do you think the 'overalls' looking apron would be ok for me? i like that there might be more room for eggs. I often get over a dozen, so need to plan that into the choice. Bitsy, that one in your link looks nice, but I might prefer it in a more 'canvas' looking carpenter apron like color. ;)

Yes the overalls look would be awesome! More pockets ;D

My children attend a year-round school (the same one I teach at), and we are off-track this week so I told them as soon as the kitchen and living room were clean we would go to the IFA and look at the chicks. Boy they cleaned up fast! It was hard not to come home with 3 or 4 (or 12 or 15) but we resisted!

I did pick up some Sav-A-Chick, both the electrolyte and probiotic, and a few small feeders in preparation for the coming of chicks. We have a tentative ship date of March 1

. Can anyone give me other suggestions to have on hand for when they get here?

I also scored on 2x4x8s in the culled section of Home Depot, so I'm getting closer to coop construction. If only Mother Nature would cooperate!

So.. you guys have got me thinking of attempting my own egg gathering apron... (I don't sew much more than rice packs, and blankets lol so I don't know how it'll turn out...)

but I was tempted to do these two materials...

main apron

pockets

what do you think?

It doesn't look like it would be difficult to sew.

I think those are cool looking fabrics, but I would recommend you visit Joanne's. The one in Clinton at least has very similar fabrics, and I'm pretty sure they are quite a bit cheaper per yard. I've seen quite a few chicken type patterns when I'm waiting for my wife to get fabric cut.

The only sewing I do is on gunny sacks, and it has been a while since I did that. I hope that we are all advanced enough here that folks won't look down their nose at a man collecting eggs in an apron. I have seen several photographs on the various chicken sites, where women go out to chore, in their pajamas and boots… just saying. Bitsy I might model your finished product for you, should you not have a better offer, or someone else in mind.

While out today, I caught this little vermin running around, and he is no more. I am sure ACE will appreciate my trapping skills, I believe he wishes to hang one of these rascals from his shed as well. I have reset the trap… wonder what else I might trap out there.

I thought it cold this morning, must have been the wind. I bought me a new snow shovel today, I suppose I might as well embrace winter, and try to pass the cold season as best one can. I sometimes tire of shoveling snow, I am sure Lisa is 'down with that' as well. The snow of late is very wet and heavy, makes for a workout for sure. Also I am getting quite the snow banks around the place, some of it won't melt off for quite a while.

Best to all and your flocks,

RJ

yeah, I should visit them before I buy... but I looked online, and their selection was very poor, and the one I liked was not available in the store. I just didn't want to go out in this beautiful 'stay indoors' type of weather ;)

Just an update on my pickled banty egg project… they are the hit of the new year. Demand is pushing hard against supply, and I am getting a dozen a day or so. Not my personal cup of tea, but I like having a market/use for my little productive hard feather flock.

Stay in, stay warm,

RJ
