I'll check out Cal-Ranch - thanks

We don't get much from IFA, but the manager at the Draper one seems nice. They informed me of a local place for food grade DE. For chicken feed and shavings I go to Saddle Up. They are cheaper than IFA and do frequent buyers cards (buy 8 get 1 free). With their shavings you get two cubic feet more for two dollars less than IFA. I've never been to Cal-Ranch, maybe I'll have to check them out tomorrow.

Here's something kind cool (and kinda gross...)

Last winter I was walking in the school playground with my family, and ran across one of our neighbors who kept chickens. That was what got me interested in them in the first place. 5 months later, here I am enjoying my first eggs. (Got 2 more today for a grand total of 7!) [As an aside, I use a cool spredsheet that keeps track of production, costs, etc. You can find it on this thread . Click on raizin's web site for the latest version].

So, for the cool/gross thing. About an hour ago, my neighbor called me up in a semi-panic. Her husband doesn't "do" chickens, and one of her hens had a prolapse. She called up and wanted me to hold the chicken while she cleaned, and pushed things back in.

Ok, it was kinda gross, but it was very interesting. Glad I did it!

I'm afraid to create a spreadsheet, I get the feeling it would be too much on the negative side.

Wow - I'm not excited about "fixing" a prolapse. Guess I can call you the first time we have one?

I have more problems at the Riverton IFA. Where is Saddle Up and Steve Regan?

Spreadsheet? Me?

I'm trying to keep things simple in my life. I know spreadsheets would just take up more time that I don't have. Besides, I already know I have VERY expensive eggs and veggies!!!!!

Wow - that's a great deal! Is it food-grade DE? I've never quite understood why it has to be food-grade. I guess I'll be heading up there to get some this week. Thanks for the info!
