Utah!

hen-thusiast, What a quandary! Very odd habit for them to get into. I hope you're able to find a solution that works out alright.

I wonder if you could try any of that stuff they make to help dogs stop. It's not a medicine that I can remember, just makes their poo taste nasty. But then again, worms & bugs probably taste nasty so maybe it would encourage help. Haven't tried it myself so can only offer an uneducated guess.

Yes it is a quandary. I really think it has to do with their environment before I got them. Maybe Pioneer needs some brown leghorns to keep him company?

Hmmm.... that is an interesting thought. The main ingredient in those products is MSG. I wonder if it would work on chickens. I'll have to do some research.

These poor little chicks. I don't want to bash the feed store I got them from, but these chicks have some serious issues. First the pasty butt, then we had to put a red light on them for two days because they were pecking at each other's butts, then the one lost her toes (and some of the others look like they might) due to the wire flooring they were on at the feed store, AND they eat they eat their own poop. To top it off at least three to four of the supposedly female chicks have huge pink combs. I've never had this many problems with any other chicks we've raised.
ARG!

Might be able to help. My grandpa has too many leghorns and lives in Benjamin. The only thing is they won't be laying until around the end of August.
I'm in SF and go down there all the time.

They must be young. I have one pullet that will start probably the end of July, but I am one of those impatient people..I want that leghorn sized egg...now!
Really though, thanks..Spanish Fork too ey? Boy, this BYC has people from every little where.

I'm going to message you which feed store it was.

Can you please message me also. I'm new to chicks and I had to get mine from a certain feed store because the other one sold out. I wasn't to impressed but with tips from friends I got lucky and my chicks are still here at 5 weeks old and seem healthy. My friend lost half of hers that she bought at that store.
