Nephi? By chance do you know any Worwoods out there? And, I agree with another one that posted about getting eggs from someone that is selling eggs to eat. Often times they have roos.

In fact, I know someone that sells some of her eggs for eating, and I know she has roos! Lindon area.

Ok, I think we all know that's a pretty scarry sign that this kid, or kids, could get into some serious problems in the future...glad you are doing something. Hope they get the help needed!

Sounds like you have a good set-up for your birds. They will be fine as long as you have draft free ventilation (I think it's 1 sq ft per bird). I've never had a chicken get frostbite on their comb. You mainly run into problems with it when your coop isn't ventilated enough and the humidity gets too high combined with the extra cold temps (degrees in the negatives).

I can't believe it. Orem got it's first snowfall of 2011 last night. It was scary, I hadn't had my lamp in my coop so I had to run out in sneakers with no coat and try to set up the lamp. I did it and my girls were nice and toasty through the night. Around the pen by the coop where the tarp is covering is nice and dry. I even dug them up a spot to dustbathe! They got warm bread this morning and my dad brought home 7 buckets of wheat! They LOOVE Wheat

They even walked out and started eating the snow. They didn't seem to mind it....Silly Chickens

mine came out but they did not have to walk in snow so they were happy. my run runs along the side of my coop and my tarps run from on top of the coop then over the run and then at a angle down the side. i also am not heating my coop so my girls are more accepting of the cold. i have straw stacked so they can clime on top of them so its like a jungle gym of sorts. oh and when i built my coop i did black shingles on it so it could add heat to the coop in the winter and it even is okay in the summer because i have trees and bushes to shade it

My husband shoveled some paths in the lawn area, so, I let them out today. They didn't seem to mind it. I even let some of the younger ones have the choice of coming out, which they did, and then would go back in to warm up, then would come back out again. I close them up at night.
Oh, and I also close us up at night, and turn the heat...down...a bit, but have nice warm blankies for us all. So all of us are warm here.
