I spaced on the RSL, which would be smart because of the gty of no unwanted roos (yeah!... but how sad for the ones left behind). Anyway, of Red or Black what do you think? Good to hear they do lay different versions of brown..I LIKE color!

I love love LOVE the Delwares but they are not laying my my white leghorns, constant steady laying machines.

It's funny because not only do I try to make all the cartons hv the same egg color but, but I also try to make sure no two colors are next to each other in the carton. On the Dorky dork dork bench I'll sit!

I have a golden sex link pullet. (I think its the same as the red sex link). She is an egg machine! She laid at 17 weeks (6 weeks before the others the same age) the first week in August, gave me 4 double yolker whoppers in 4 days her 2nd week, and 2 more a month or two ago....she lays every day (has not missed a day since her 20th week in August). Her eggs are the largest of all my girls, they are bigger than a XL store egg by a ways. She lays at 6 am every day, no fail, she wakes up, gets in the nest, and lays within 10 minutes. I cannot imagine any breed doing better than that...I did read on another thread that they burn out faster though, around 24 months. She is the only one I have that lays that much, that big, etc. and she is one of the mellowest temperaments to boot. Needless to say I am sold on that breed after my experience! I have never had the BSL to compare. Her eggs are a rich reddish brown, a bit darker than my others.

well i have only had black and i love them so i am sticking to them. some are total lap chickens, some a grumpy (that one is named ms b lol) i even have one that if i point to another girl that is acting out of line she will run up and peck her for me. my girls see me as the rooster so i do peck them when they are out of line. my bsl are one of my favorite breeds by far. they are calm, they can find there own food, they are quiet, they lay huge eggs, they are my best layers. you will not have to play the rooster guessing game. i got double yokers from them before and even a triple

I have a rooster that we got as a chick back in april that has not crowed yet, but I am sure it will eventuallly, I need to get rid of it as soon as possible, he is a little mean to the heans. email me at [email protected] if your interested. I am in south Utah County

I put my easter egger babies out in the big girl coop today. Perfect day--mild weather, and I am amazed, the big girls are not hassling them at all. One of the babies, Shirley, gets in the big girls face and they run from her. She is my new bossy haha

I'm glad your transition is going well! How funny that they run from her.

JRBIRDMAN, I would suggest you take pictures of your rooster, and post an ad on KSL, mentioning breed on there. If you don't care whether or not he gets eaten, it seems like I've heard there's a guy in northern utah county who will process a bird for $2 if you want to eat him. If YOU don't want to eat him, I was given a list of people who will pick up unwanted roosters that they eat.

Thanks Sphinx! They were great during the day! But now that the sun has set....the big girls are in the coop with them it is getting dicey

It is like the wolves are closing in on their little prey....I nailed a board up across the bottom of the nesting boxes with a little opening so they can run in there and they are spending a lot of time back there right now

Until the big girls go to sleep it might be a little scary for them. I think they will stay warm enough, there is some heat out there too, so if all goes well I will see how they do during the night. I may try putting them on the roost next to the sleepy girls after ten, they can always jump down and run behind their board if it does not work out. It has kept me busy tonight lol! This part always stresses me out. I hate adding newbie babies, especially after our mean EE tried to eat my poor bantam for dinner

Ha, that's great! I let my girl out too. They are in a smaller coop with the young cochins, but she is larger, and they are older.
Does Shirley give the stink eye? Boy, that can scare some of the biggest ones off.
