Utah!

I am posting this picture----we found these timers at Home Depot for $5 for two pack. LOVE them. It is a dial with 24 hours on it. There are pm times listed on the top half, am times on the bottom half. Little gray tabs all around the outside, you just lift up the ones to correspond with the times the light should be on or off. This way the light could be set to go on or off several times within a day, It is super easy and I love it. You turn the dial so the arrow matches up with the current time you are setting it, then set the tabs, plug it in, plug your light into it, and it starts going. It keeps really good time too.

oh and guys!! Remember I was saying our personal pages were gone and it was sad all the time it took to figure it out? Well, I put my username in the searchbox and there was a place to click "member's page" and it was right there, Still not sure how to get there any other way or why it is not on our profile anymore, but I just pasted the link in my signature that way it is there---if anyone is interested in trying to do that, I know Cynthia you had made a page..I miss reading those and seeing more personal pics and info to help me keep track of who is who :)

All five have pipped now!!!!!

I had the focus on Azure most the day, since it was the first to pip. However, Cobalt seems to have made the most progress, so I moved it to it. The whole beak is sticking out. I think they're both going to be naughty chickens and hatch while I'm asleep.

The others will probably hatch while I'm taking kids to/from school, or getting the recall fixed on the car tomorrow.

Edited to add: So, Cynthia, I have my brooder lamp at one end of the fish tank, so that there's a cool side and a warmer side. That way, if they're too warm on one side, they can go to the cooler side. Even though I see them pant sometimes, as though they're hot, they insist on staying on the warmer side. What do you make of that?
That is different. Maybe they like the light, they often do. When I turn off the lights that my chicks are under, while I candle, they have a heart attack and peep and peep and peep. Then, when I turn the light back on, they stop peeping. Can you put less a light bulb in there? They do eat and drink through the night, so they do rely on the light. Try and keep nice cool water in there. They really did look to warm to me. If they are panting, they are warm, too warm. That can stress them. It won't hurt to put a smaller W. bulb in there. I have moved my chicks to the larger bin with the other chicks I got from McMurry. They are all doing well. I only have a 60 W. bulb in that huge bin. They are under it, but not snuggled up tight, they all have their space, so they are happy with that amount of heat.

Those are nice to have. I have a couple of them. I use them when I am not using the heat lamps.
On the personal page thing, I just scroll down on my own profile, and see that there are pictures there. In fact, for some reason, some of the pictures that I have posted on here, appeared there! Still learning on this site, but I am getting more and more used to it.

Yes it is taking some time to figure this new site out....I am still not getting my emails, and I have re-set everything. I can't see any pics on mine when I look---weird! There are things I really like and things I miss----like the little link to the member pages right under the avatar. Although not a lot of people had them they were really fun and interesting to look through.

On the baby's heat--I am thinking I will switch down to a 60 or 75 w tomorrow. I have a 100w in there about 2 feet above them and they do look a little warm. Maybe these new guys are just so fuzzy they are not needing it? Seems like my others needed it longer,, a full week with a 125 flood light maybe....I was so grateful for your advice Cynthia when I got the blacks, they were totally fine at 4 weeks in my cold garage with a 60 w bulb, in an open wire cage...I never would have thought. When I got those guys in December I thought they would be in the garage until March but I forget how fast they grow...they are fine out in the coop and are much happier I am sure. So I am thinking to the garage with these in about two weeks with a regular bulb and a blanket around at night if it is colder. It stays about 50 out there, it is insulated, with a bulb that makes one little warm spot to lay in they should be ok, no drafts.... It's not easy having them in the house long with that chicken lovin' dog. He is going crazy  :ya

Edit--I DID see the pictures you were talking about! I had to scroll down further, I never even knew that stuff was down there
:clap Thanks for the info!

Not fair!!! I missed both!

They were having such a tough time in such tight quarters that I broke the "lockdown" rule, and took them out of the incubator and put them both in the brooder.

My tiny lavender chicks suddenly look HUGE. I ended up having to stick a piece of paper in there to block them from the new babies so they'd leave the poor things alone.

Yeah, naughty chickens hatched while I was asleep, so I only have been able to see Sappphire (the one who just barely hatched) come out.

I'm thinking I may help Beryl out once I get the kids to school. She's been pipped almost 24 hours and no real progress. This is the one that pipped to the floor, so I'm a little worried.

I love rope lights! We put some on the outside a few weeks ago to scare predators off at night....never thought about putting them inside, great idea! Gonna use that one too ;)
