Utah!

I am hatching some BO next week.

By the time you get the pencil, I could have a girl picked out for you.

Sounds like you got a real nice place for your chickens. I can tell you care about them. I am so glad to be placing my birds to people that care abuot them. It will be fun to watch them grow up..

So hoping that one is a girl Lisa. The one from that green egg you want so bad.

I promise, it really was a pretty colored green egg. Not the olive, like green olives, but a med. dark green. So you will have some different colors going on. That's if, she lays green eggs, and not blue. You never know!

I like that you refer to her as a "she". I keep saying "he" I do not know why haha! My kids keep correcting me :) Yes I will love her, blue or green :) I promise. I have nothing against a nice green egg, Blue is just the color I keep chasing after and it keeps turning up green, you always want what you can't have, right?? So long as it is something, any color, an egg, and not crowing! haha :) I am hoping one of the EE at least will be a hen, they are just way cute. I have never seen such a fat chick as the one, it is quite comical watching her try to move around. We are completely in love with all of them. The little blue/splash....has really pinkish/red eyes like an albino looks. SHe is eensie weensie, I cannot imagine how tiny that black one is if it is smaller even...I wonder how big they will turn out! Do yu know if there is a correlation between chicks from smaller pulletish eggs versus big chicks from older layers eggs...and how big they turn out as hens/and their egg size that they lay? It would be interested to know if it makes a difference. We could conduct our very own chicken research study lol :p

Birdman---congrats onyour new SPR. She is beautiful! I am so glad you get to have some new girls! It is like Christmas, yes?

my chickens are my babys and yeah i love them and care deeply about them. intreasting about the bo, you will have to keep me posted. i feel very lucky to get the pencil rock, they are stunning and for them to come from a breeder is even better because i have heard not so good things about the pencil rocks from hatchery's. white eggs are a little dull to me so now i mostly keep brown and colored egg layers. i try to give my girls a good life.

Ok, here are some pics of my other babies from that hatch, plus, the little black one. It doesn't look all that small in the pictures, but it is. Lisa, think of all of that fluff on those ones, and then that blue up against them with no fluff..maybe helps make it look pretty small.
There's the little one I brought back home, right in the middle.
Not the best picture, but you can see the fluffy cheeks on the others better here. The colors on them are great.
You can see the color and muffs on them better here, and the little black one hiding in the back..no splayed leg on the one, it's just the way it is standing..and, more pics to come, notice it's foot is fine, but in a pic to come, it has it's toes curled, but they are fine.
Wish I had a better camera..this one has the coloring of a tiger face!
Fluff!
This is the last one, I promise. You can see how small it is in my hand. And not only is it small, it has strange/different feathers going down the back, extra short. I have no idea what is up with this baby. It's supposed to be a LF pure Ameraucana.

love the markings on the tiger one cynthia! but yeah getting more chickens feels like christmas. actually the spr is a gift i am giving myself for my birthday that is going to be sometime in the next few months lol. so i have now been keeping chickens for a year now. this time last year my dad took a week off work to be my slave and build a coop in about 4 days and with him being so out of shape and me with all my health problems we still got it built. we even worked in the huge snow storm. i hit some bumps in the year like the bumble foot on a favorite hen but it has not been to bad. i tweaked my coop to how i like it and still tweak with it. i have learned a lot from all of you and you all have helped me deal with the bumps in the road of keeping chickens. my girls have been so good for me, its not so easy to get out of bed with my health problems but my chickens get me to get up and out as hard as it is. my chickens have given me something to look forward to in life and gave me another reason to live and to keep going on. my chickens mean the world to me. it means a lot to me that i have you all to talk to. thank you all

OK this post has me feeling all sentimental and crying and happy for you all at the same time. This is such a outpouring of your heart, how neat is that for you that you can do that here and know your chickens friends DO care about you and share in your happiness, sadness, triumphs, and speedbumps! I have now concluded that the chicken keepers I have met here are the nicest people I know. If you love chickens, then you must be alright!! Good, decent people on this thread. No trolls :) This is our happy place!

Cynthia---cute pics! That blackie looks extra small in the picture where it is behind everybody, very sweet! My grandkids were over tonight, and they are calling my fat one "little squatty fatface". They love her ALOT! I am scared to name these because I am afraid I will get too attached and they will be boys. I am really feeling a girlie vibe from the blue/splash and the BA though. I hope so! I think I get to feeling the petite ones are girls and the bigger ones are boys just because it seems like it should be that way. It will be funny if I have them all backwards :D :D :D :D (well sort of funny anyway...)

Ok Brad, you and I, with the health problems, but you are too young for them! Oh wait, I don't know how old or young you are. lol.. I'm old.

I was actually diagnosed with Fibro, then with MS, and I just said, treat me as a symptom shows up. I don't take anything for either, ha, just have surgery when needed though. Being out of my neck brace has been great.
So, I have my bad days, and I have my good days, but I always..most always..not after surgery..get out to my girls. They always make me smile. I think they actually help me do better with all that is going on in this body. Of course my family is right there too, I have a wonderful husband right here, and it sounds like your dad is great! He knows that this makes you happy. You are very blessed to have such a dad. I never had the opportunity to know my real dad.
I also had a hen last year that had bumble foot. Boy, was that something to deal with. My husband held the chicken, while I did the surgery and wrapping. lol...she ended up doing really well after. I was kind of proud of myself.
Well, I think we are all here for each other. So thankful to get to meet new folks on here. I...LOVE...chicken people!! They are the friendliest! I'm also thankful for the help I get on here. You sure have done your fair share of giving help to us! Thank you!
Take care, and if you want to share your health problems, go for it..or if you would rather just go out and talk to your girls about it, then that works too. lol. I know I do. They know when I'm having an extra bad day, I tell them, " ya know, it isn't easy to walk out here today, but here I am, and here's your food, and thanks for listening." lol... They do talk back don't ya know... The whole time I'm out there, they talk to me..of course, they want food. But sometimes, I swear, they just get excited to see me. I like to think so anyway.
So, take care, and maybe you and I will get the chance to meet! Hope so!!!

Ok, went back in time on our thread. I saw your post about your health and your age..
wink.png
You are young. I have kids older than you. So your back and your heart. I told you way back then that we were twins with the health problems, my back, neck, and heart also. I've had two heart ablations. And just like you said, that's life. But, I was doing pretty good at 21. I'm so glad you have your chickens! You have a great attitude!

Wow. I kind of feel for you guys with some of the stuff I have going on. No heart problems or anything, just other stuff...... 'nuff said. Bird-man, if I could, I would totally have a foster rooster for you. I think you said that you can't have roos where you are, right?

Sphinx, I know that two of those boys you gave me will likely end up in the pot when they're big enough, but I sure love holding them and watching them. The red one's pretty brave, and I think he's my favorite to play with. My girl chicks aren't as used to being handled by me, so they're still shy, but the boys are fun. I think I'm going to try turning them out into the yard soon here so they can run around. Hopefully without my rooster seeing them, heh.

So, found out something kind of interesting about my leghorn that the coon/skunk/jerk got last week. I'd noticed that she had bumblefoot, and I was getting set to do home surgery and get rid of the infection for her. Well, after she met her demise, I was examining the carcass and lo and behold, she had a nail in her foot! It looked like it had been there for a while. The good folks I got her from told me that she was fond of jumping up on top of her coop and then over the fence, so the best I can figure is that she had the bad fortune to step on something that was loose and no one ever saw it. At least she doesn't have to deal with it any more. (And sorry to bring up a morbid subject!)

Lisa, here is the site of the gal I got those chicks from..you will be able to tell which ones are the EE's of course. There is one, with three hens alone in the picture..no roos..you can see the cheeks and muffs on those. And man, that grey rooster..and some of the other roos..no wonder these babies have such fluffy faces!
didn't work..looking again!
Can't get it to paste?
Go to the hatching eggs site..and look for Atlchick..go to her pictures! There are our babies moms and dads.
