I never heard input on this.....does anybody on here know if there is such a possibility of an albino chicken? My little Ameraucana that I just got, is really coming in with white feathers, and his eyes are pinkish red. Beak is super light, feet and legs are light yellow instead of slate. It is kind of cool, just wondering if that is even possible. It should be splash blue or black but it is just kinda crazy how light it is getting. I also noticed it is avoiding the light and the others love the light.....kinda strange, maybe coincidence. If it were an albino I really hope it is a girl so I could keep it, the novelty of it and all....Cynthia---those other possible breeds that may have crossed into the Ameraucana pen are so dark, no way it would have come from them? I will have to get some pics up. I do not know how much the eyes will show up.

Here are a couple, the pinkish eyes are not showing up really good in the pictures--but maybe this helps you see what I mean...




I searched on here and it seems to be not likely. No pics on google at all.
Now that I am looking at the pics, maybe there are some splash colors that will come in....she looks really white in person but the pictures show some blotchy patches....I am so impatient I just cannot wait to see how she/he turns out lol!

That white one actually looks like it could be a pullet. Not too sure about the dark EE yet, but the other with the chipmunk markings looks like a pullet too..I didn't realize it had those markings. It will be pretty. And, I would say that Australorp is looking like a pullet! That's how mine are that I have here. I have someone wanting the rest..I can't believe it..it's the first time I've had more girls than boys in a big hatch! They are great layers! Your dark baby looks a lot like mine.
I wouldn't be surprised if you get some splash on the white, since it's white and not blue. It will take a bit for that to come out, and hopefully, darker than lighter splash. Have you spread the wings out, looked through the shoulder pin feathers coming in? If they are yet? May be a while yet for those come to think of it. And, of course, check the tail pin feathers when they start showing up better. All these things you probably already know. LOL..

Brad, no problem, will save you a girl BO. Being this is still only Feb., you should have her laying by July..you can baby her until then. They are good at following you around as it is, but she will know you pretty good seeing as how you will have her as a youngin.

No I do not know any of this my friend so I am grateful for your input! I have looked at feathers on the white one, no colors yet at all....I am glad you think there is hope for a girl here, something about it just has had me thinking the opposite. The brown one too.....maybe not though! There is no way they could all be girls is there? That would be awesome The little chipmunk from the green egg is my absolute sweetest I really hope it is a girl. It loves to be held, not skittish at all. That is the one that was on its bum scooting around at first lol poor thing took forever to figure it out, and it is FAT, the belly on that one is very round and heavy. Will keep watching them and let you know what happens, esp with the white one.

Got a question for the group since we are new to this chicken raising stuff. Noticed what looked like one of our chicks taking a dust bath in the brooder...scratching and wiggling into the pine shavings, then rolling over in them. Is this possible at this age (two weeks)?

What's in your brooder? Do you mean a nest box? Did you just put some nice clean shavings in there? lol..nah, no eggs yet, they just love to do the dust bath thing for fun, or like I said, in something that seems nice to them. Mine go under my picnic table outside the run, and have a favorite spot of dirt, that is under the apple trees, a couple of places under those trees. Sounds like your babies are loving acting like chickens.

Hi Cynthia, Yeah, we only have shavings in the brooder. They appear to be very happy in there. Just didn't know that they are born with all the natural "chicken" behaviors built in. lol. It is fascinating that they do all their stuff without ever seeing an adult chicken. Thanks for the input. ucm

Just thought I would mention that Bountiful is having a city council meeting on Tuesday the 28th and they have on the agenda a discussion regarding altering the Land use ordinace to allow up to 6 chickens. My 12 year old son decided to do a petition and is now walking door to door in bountiful (with an adult supervision, of course) to get signatures to try to persuade the council in favor, cute little guy that he is. He was very excited tonight that he got 10 signatures and plans to go out again tomorrow. Don't know how much good it will do, but it certainly won't hurt. he plans on presenting the council with the petition on Tuesday. If anyone wants to show up to support the cause, that would be lovely!

Oh my goodness! Your son is great to get involved with your cities interests. That's what is needed in our own city, folks that will let the councils know what is wanted, or needed. He just may be a city councilor someday!

What do you guys use for a brooder box? I will be getting 8-9 chicks this week (4-5 for me and 4 for our friends. I need some sort of box or container for them.
