Utah!

i would give her a pro-biotic such as plain yogurt. and i would take her off the medicated feed. medicines can be very hard on birds and every bird is different. i know with one of my parrots that had to be on baytril it was like a blood bath but the pro-biotic cleared it up. it was very scary for sure. you can also get pro-biotic powder that is meant for birds, but yogurt is great and cheaper

Hmm, okay, thanks birdman. We do have some yogurt that I can give her. I'll try that and see if she takes any.

maybe more meds will be good. i am not an expert by far so my post was on my experience and it was with a 17 year old parrot so its not the same situation. sounds like you are doing research so that is good. best of luck!

Well, a little bit of good news this morning. I checked on my babies and they are all still there, eating, and drinking. The dollop of yogurt I left in the brooder last night was all eaten up, so I put some more out there today. I'm trying to keep any blood I see in there cleaned up asap, just in case this is contagious. So, so far, so good.

X's 2 You said it perfect Brad! I was just going to post those suggestions..get her off of that med. feed!! And yes, she should loove the plain yogurt. Not the ones with the fruit in it, they get more of the pro biotic in the plain. Bet she clears up pretty quick after getting her on reg. chick food. But, if she doesn't, I would be for separating her from your others. I know..sad. :(

I really wouldn't worry too much about any disease at this point, unless your other chickens outside are sick? Haven't you had her since she was just tiny? I would go with taking them all of the medicated chick feed. I only feed mine the med. for a few days, then they are off of it. I have seen the more runny poo when I kept them on it longer.
Well, off to watch GC.. :))

So a friend of mine at work wanted some of my barred rocks that I've been raising for meat birds (trying those and freedom rangers, which I have learned to HATE!!). So I went up to the land in Duchesne to pick them up, went in the coop, which has three pens in it, and went into the barred rock's pen. Found myself a few nice looking hens for her, plucked one off the perch and put her in my carrier. Turned around to get the second one and what do I see?

20 Freaking Chickens Running Out The Door.

I'm such an idiot, I forgot to close the inner and outer door. In my defense, I've been working A LOT lately, but still... These are all juvenile birds, so they haven't quite gotten to the calm stage of life. That is to say, the little buggers run dang fast.

We ran around, and around, and around, and around the coop. I was getting more and more irritated, explaining the concepts of "chopping block" and "freezer camp", none of which made them much inclined to slow down. My Adult BLRW's appeared highly amused by the whole show--all of them were out in their run, watching us and, I'm quite certain, placing wagers on how long it would take me to catch the little brats.

The winner bet on 45 minutes.

I now hate barred rocks. Not that it's their fault, but one must blame something other than one's own idiodicy, yes?

Upside of the week is that my current hatch is going very well--7 out of 12 chicks have hatched, several more pips, and we just went into day 21 early this afternoon. These are my own BLRW's whose parents were so amused by my running after the barred rocks. Everyone in the incubator looks strong and healthy so far. Quite a relief after the last disaster hatch!

15 days until my..your..our....ducklings hatch jwoo! So excited!
I candled again last night (I am a candling addict) and they were all moving! The twins egg is doing good also! It moved once so..yay!

Corvidae, I'm totally laughing out loud at your story. It wouldn't be nearly as funny if I hadn't been in the same position in the past. So I am really curious- you live in Davis County, right? How do you go about collecting your eggs all the way out in Duchesne? Is your land in the town proper, or just in the county? My great aunt lived there, and we went to her funeral last fall, and that was a heck of a drive to be making all the time.

Chiko, glad your incubation is going really well.
